E91 PX

Advise required !

I have a 2008 08 Golf GTI 3dr tornado red /18" alloys/leather/nav .

I am thinking of PX to a E91 320D MSPORT TOURING .

I suppose my question is do i go new or sh ?

If i wanted new is there any changes to the 2010 models that go in prduction in Aug .

This is a second vechicle to carry my dogs in and commute 1.5mls to work

colour? leather?

What would the cost be to change .Do you think £10k would do it TIA Scooba .

last thought Audi A4 estate

E91 320d Msport (without any options) = £ 29,706

Drive the Deal Price = £ 25,237

Retail Value for the Golf = £ 17,100

Part Ex Value (top) = £ 15,500

So cost to change would be sub £10k with private sale / broker, but maybe more like £12k from the dealers.

Secondhand you obviously won't take the initial depreciation hit and you can get the 2009 LCI model. This would certainly help on keeping to your 10k to trade figure but may limit on any options you were considering for the E91.

Audi A4 nice cars *ducks* but don't have the driving dynamics of the E9x and having been a VAG man for most of my driving career believe me you won't look back!

Only thing is if you only have a 1.5mile commute why bother with the 320d? why not look at 325i instead? 320d has the DPF which isn't suited to pottering type mileage.

Broadspeed have the 320d MSport for (no options) for £24836.

If you go into a dealer and take a broadspeed quote with you, they will likely match it because all Broadspeed are doing is introducing main dealers.

If you are looking around those sorts of prices, I'd buy new - you can get a new one for about the same price as a nearly new (6mths-1year) one.

Just as an aside, if it is a second car in which you do very few miles, you might be better off with a petrol. You can get a 325i for the same price as a 320d and it has that silky smooth six or a 320i ~3-4k less.

As Foxy said, if you aren't going to do the mileage then don't buy a BMW diesel, or any modern diesel for that matter. They really aren't suited to short runs. Lots of problems from them gumming up , breaking swirl flaps, etc from short runs. Also it wont get up to temp which not only contributes to these problems but negates any fuel cost savings. Last thing, as was also said, is that the Particulate filter needs to regenerate regularly and it needs longish drives to do this - a few people are now having probs with these because they do lots of short runs - it's approx £1800 to replace !! Lots of people fall into the 'its diesel so it must be economical' trap, maybe that was true a few years ago when they were simple, but the new breed of powerful diesels are far from simple and have been designed to eat miles up and down a motorway. My 330 D does lots of long runs and works fine on it. I really try not to use it around town at weekends and use the wife's 1.6 petrol focus as it really hurts the BMW

just my 2ps worth
