2 buy or not 2 buy?

I've been searching for an e90 328i with 6 spd MT, ZSP and Xenons and have zeroed in on 3 vehicles:

1.
Miles:20000
Year: 2007
Price:$29000
VIN: WBAVA33527FV65642

2.
Miles: 32000
Year: 2008
Price: $26000
VIN: WBAVC53598A246663

3.
Miles: 30000
Year:2007
Price: $28000
VIN: WBAVA33537PG40023

Ran Autocheck and the CARFAX(provided by dealers) on them and found no issues reported so far. All three vehicles have a fleet vehicle title. I've read not so positive opinions on the forum about fleet vehicles, but am willing to give it a shot since they'd be under manufacturer warranty. Here is, rather are my concerns:

1. Car #2 has been driven 32k miles in 2 yrs but still has 2 yrs of manufacturer warranty left on it. What do the car experts here think about it? Is this a better deal than the other two?

2. What do you suggest should be the price i should be willing to pay on these cars? Dealers have a pretty high markup on CPOs and my wallet isn't exactly overflowing

3. Strangely neither CARFAX nor Autocheck report any service records on all three cars. Is this common? A friend of mine suggested that some people on the forum can pull vehicle service records given the VIN. Would appreciate if anyone can provide any service record info on these cars.

Cheers!

If all you want is ZSP and 6spd MT, you may be better off spending a few grand more and ordering a new 2011. The value package (leather and iPod connection), free maint., and warranty may save you cash in the long run. Also, factory financing on a new car might be quite good.

+1 IF the F30 was not hitting the market in 2 years to screw your resale value on a custom build car with only 6MT and ZSP.

I think those prices sound way too high for the 2007's.

I realize you're looking at an E90 328i, but as a comparison, on 31 Dec 09 I bought a CPO'd Jet Black/Terra 2007 335i Sedan with 6-speed manual, ZSP-Sport Package (with Oil Cooler), ZPP-Premium Package, ZCW-Cold Weather Package, Comfort Access, and 27,200 miles. I paid just under $27,800* + tax, tag, title and doc fees. I also got 0.9% financing from BMW for 48 months (the sale price was actually $29k, but BMW made my first two payments).

I had no trade-in, so the dealer didn't play a shell game with the sale price.

The car's original 2007 invoice cost was $42k and the original MSRP was $45k.

The suggested CPO price was $31,995.

The car’s in-service date was 22 Nov 06, so I had 11 months of free maintenance and 35 months of warranty remaining.

The GALVES TRADE-IN VALUE was $22,800 and the GALVES MARKET READY VALUE was $24,250 on the E90 I bought. I estimated the value of the CPO at $2k, so the dealer probably had about $25k-$26k into the car.

That was 5 months ago and 2007's have continued depreciating since then...

Well ... thanks for the info guys!

Can we have some verdicts on how much each of these cars might be worth paying for?

Here you go:

Car # 1; 2007 E90 328i with 6MT, ZSP & 20k miles: Galves Trade-in (wholesale) value: $17,675

Car # 2; 2008 E90 328i with 6MT, ZSP & 32k miles: Galves Trade-in (wholesale) value: $17,800

Car # 3; 2007 E90 328i with 6MT, ZSP & 30k miles: Galves Trade-in (wholesale) value: $17,000

These prices are what you’d get for a trade-in on the above cars (Xenons don’t matter). NOTE: You won't be able to buy a used vehicle from any dealer for these prices, especially not a CPO.

After getting the car at wholesale value, the BMW dealer needs to:

Recondition the vehicle for about $1,000 (estimate).

Add a CPO warranty for about $1,500 (estimate).

Cover his overhead.

Make a profit.

You can figure out the reasonable retail value you're willing to pay using the above values.

My guess is that a savvy buyer, who successfully played the 3 BMW dealers off against each other, could get any of those CPO'd cars for around $23,000, especially near the end of the month.

Good luck with your purchase.

you're right! I just bought a galves account and honestly, was surprised looking at the prices! I was expected some difference in the price, but the quote by some of the dealers was a complete ripoff!

Why can't dealers be a little forthright and honest about the prices?

I'm writing back to each one of them with my quote and we'll see how they respond to it. Thanks TJDiCandido
