Supaguard - is it worth £405?

Hi,

Went to the stealers today to look over my new purchase (placed deposit over the phone without seeing it), car hadn't been preped but still looked lovely but on closer inspection noticed it was covered in swirl marks. I asked for the car to be detailed to remove the swirls and he agreed. but he then went on to say because they will be taking the paint work back a little it would be worth having the supaguard sealed.

Whats are peoples Experience on this? On previous cars I've had it offered around the £200 mark so I was a little surprised to hear him say £405.

I also noticed a couple of the wheels were damaged, but he did say they would be refurbed (joys of second hand cars I guess)

I'm picking my new motor up in two weeks and I would like a polymer coating, but I think £405 is too much. My stealer has quoted £399, but for £200 I could be interested. I can't seem to find any other national chain that does this protection.

Don't let the stealers touch your paintwork! Spend that money and get a pro to do it properly!

+1. Even for £300 a good pro will do a much better job than some numpty throwing a bucket of sealant over your car.

No, is a waste of money, you can buy the kit for £15 on ebay!!!

Better to save your money, and let a detailer prep your car for less!

I'm in the trade, and know what a waste it is!

Thanks for the quick responses, I didn't think it was worth it, but this just confirms that.

Like Tsime, can someone reccommend anyone near Bristol?

I had it on mine as it was 'free' but all they did was seal-in some tree sap.

As above, most kits are £15-£20 on ebay or trade price, none are very good, but even to get any benfit the prep must be perfect. As said before look at detailing world or google detailers in Bristol etc. If it is swirled it will need a professional machine polish and then a sealant such as jetseal 109 or a glaze/wax such as Zymol. Easily dine for less than £400 and will be perfection.

2nd, 3rd & 4th that.

Never ever, ever let the dealer so much as wash your car, never mind polish it if you value your paintwork.

In fact, if it didnt have to go in to keep the warranty valid mine would never be seen there again ( and I have an excellent rap and service from the dealer ).

You may as well smear your new car in s**t because that is what supaguard is!

A deatiler I use is Simon Belli of Prestige Detailing. He is brilliant and will come to you.

So the concensus seems to be don't touch supaguard, espcially from a stealer. I knew it was expensive, but no idea it was piss poor as well (i'm guessing through application rather then product). This is why I love forums

Thanks for the replies

Question

Hi,

I went to get my car cleaned on Saturday, and the owner of the carwash seeing my car was 'New' he chatted to me about using 'Supagard' for £190.00.

I've seen the kits on 'eBay' for very little cash.

So what would I be paying for?

And, is 'Supagard' any good?

What is the best option for looking after your car, bearing inmind that my car is a 'Company Car'?

Sorry for all the questions, but I would be glad for any advice.
