Faulty door lock solution

Hey,

My 2002 BMW 324 door locks went crazy. Only the driver's door opened. Serious issue, especially with locked gas cap door.
I pulled out the 3 FUSES that might have some connection to the door locks - all were fine - and put them back in their slots. ALL DOORS WORKED! It must have re-booted the door locks and the security system to behave properly.
Good luck.

First time CPO BMW Owner - Car locks not working

I went to lock my doors today with the remote and the driver door locked, however, all the other ones remained unlocked. I have to get in my car through the passenger side. The car turns on and drives fine, however the lock/unlock button in the car does not work at all. Right now I cannot lock my door, or I won't be able to get in or out.

I just passed my 50,000 last month. Are the fuses covered? Or is this electrical? Any help or guidance will be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Another on to add to the list. Front passenger side door lock will not unlock with the remote or the central locking system. I can get the door open by pulling the handle from the inside. If I try to lock it with the central locking system, nothing happens. However, if I lock it with the remote, it locks fine.

Haven't checked the fuses yet but I have an appointment with the dealer in a few days to get it looked at. Should be covered under CPO as far as I know.

This just happened to me on the weekend with my GF in the car (wearing a dress mind you!)

What a HUGE safety hazard that you can't manually get out of the car!!!! BMW NA needs to address this.

I dropped off the car with a local BMW specialist and came on here to research myself. Going to try doing the fuse trick first hopefully that resovles it for me. I'm out of warranty and really don't want to spend hundreds here just to open my damn doors.

Stupid problem BMW. Recall please!

Just happened to me too. Still in warranty so the dealer put the 20A fuse in and replaced both passenger side actuators. What a PITA, and it does seem like a real safety issue, not being able to get out in the event of a crash.

Once again, a big thumbs up to this forum. My '06 central locking stopped working tonight and replacing fuse #57 did the trick for me! (at least for now!). Only a quick search here was all I needed and my stress level started going down. You have all restored my love for my BMW.

FYI, there is a release in the trunk to pop the gas door open.

It is located opposite the fuel door in the trunk. It is a round button. You pull it and a cable will retract the lock on the fuel door and it will pop open.

just an update. I changed just one actuator, driver's door, on my 4-door 2006 330i. The service bulleting said to do them in pairs, but i didn't think it was necessary.

It's been about 2 years now, the locks still have no additional issues. As i had stated in another post, the new lock looked slightly different (perhaps an updated part?) than the old one. I think the service bulletin is there to avoid customer come-backs, and BMW was trying to fix it in lots. I'd imagine they have thousands of these by now. wonder if anyone has sued for being trapped in the car yet.

is this REALLY a BMW NA representative posting on this?

I have not been contacted in regards to this issue. Has anyone else?

Angry I Am An Idiot !!!

After dealing with the unreliable 335i, its HPFP problem; wheel aligment issues, excess oil burning, electrical etc. etc.

I AM IDIOT ENOUGH to get me an M3.

The f-ing car is again at the dealership, this time on the lock door issues. I have driven all the dealership Enterprise rental car fleet already. I owned in the distant past a Dodge Neon, 1987 Chevy Sprint. 1995 Suzuki Samurai all more reliable than these POS. I wish I got me a Lexus or Acura or Infiniti.
I would have also saved money.

And I miss my Ford Mustang GT with all my heart, soul and mind.

Performance snd looks does NOT replace peace of mind.

It's my turn!

Just happened to me. Thanks all for the detailed resolutions. I am going to bring an iPad to the dealer tomorrow to show them this thread and the other 50 related to this issue. I will file an NTSB complaint tonight using the link above. I hope others follow suit

Also, just started happening to me tonight. Driver side door lock will lock, but will not unlock, and need to get in via passenger door. I will try and hope it is a fuse problem only. Will keep you posted. Thank you for the resolution suggestions. g

Hello Everyone
I hope you guys can help me on this enigma

I am the owner of a 2009 335i xdrive

Now i am having problem every morning on unlocking the car with the FOB

nothing works, the lights blinks 3 times but the doors dont unlock, even when i open the drivers door with the metallic key, i cannot unlock it after .....
This is valid for the first hour when i first start the car after a the car being sitting in my garage.

When i get to work, i cannot lock the car with the fob so i manually lock the car, and i leave it on the parking lot for one hour, and after that first hour when i come back, the car unlocks and locks normally for the rest of the day.

Weird enough , when in the morning the unlock doesnt work and i have to unlock the car with the key, the passenger window doesnt work either for the first hour, it doesnt work with the passenger side button, but from the driver side button i can open the passenger window.

I have checked fuse number 57 as mentionned in this forum several times, the fuse is not blown and it was a 15 amp fuse.
I have replaced it with a 20amp fuse and still the same problem persists.

For the first hour that the unlock/lock doesnt work, the central lock button of the dash also doesnt lock the doors, and the doors dont lock also automatically when i drive off , like they usually do.

So the question is what is changinf after the first hour ? how come suddenly it work afterwards when the car is just sitting on the parking lot ?

I have 2 FOBs , i have tried both of them and same problem.

Please help me resolve this problem

Thank you

These door issues are too much. It's time to do something about it! You see, last year I almost paid $3,800 to get my four doors fixed. The dealer said that it had something to do with electrical problems. At first, it was only the left passenger door that would not open, the next day, all the doors would not open and I was stuck inside the car that I had to exit through the window. (Thank God, I was 20 pounds lighter then!) For safety concerns, I immediately took my car to the dealer and they charged me almost 6 months of my car loan payment. For some great luck, they decided to give it to me for free. I couldn't believe it - I didn't even have to sleep with anyone! LOL... But today, the right passenger door would not open. I hope it will not infect the other 3 doors tomorrow. It would definitely be harder to get out the window now that I'm bigger. I don't know why this door problem keep on persisting! Do you know any recall?

Just bought my 2007 328xi wagon last month, and guess what? This morning my passenger door was locked, but wouldn't unlock. Doesn't unlock with the fob, OR the interior unlock button. You have to manually press the lock down, to get it to lock.

I'll go check/pull fuses, but this is pretty annoying. I figured I wasn't alone on this....

passenger front lock and now rear driver window regulator, JUNK

I'm done. that's the last straw. the list has gotten too long. now i got the right door lock acting up, i did the left lock a couple years ago, and NOW the rear window reg. I opened the door and the clip that rides on the track looks like it let go of the cable, which is now all crunched up in the wind...

did the coils and plugs a few months ago, as those started to go, WITH LESS THAN 90k miles.

rubber windshield trim looks worse than my 25-year-old toyota. Gotta replace that, too now.

car is going up for sale after i fix everything. I'll keep my E36 M3 for now, that's more than enough "german engineering" for me to deal with...

foca,

Hate to say it, being so new to the German car scene, but I feel your pain. Even if only mildly. I've had this car for barely a month, and the sunroof whistle is present, then the door lock issue. Any car can have issues, but I owned Subarus for 12 years, and hesitated like crazy to buy this car. My Legacy still hasn't sold - I'm tempted to re-sell the 3, and keep the '05 Legacy GT since it's paid off anyway. It's so much quieter, and feels so great, but it just isn't worth it, if things pile up. Not saying that they will for sure, but..........not so hot a track record, so far.

I had this happen to my 07 335xi a few years ago. I could not open any doors except for the driver door with the metal key. The dealership changed the fuses and all of the door actuators.

Today, I noticed that I could not unlock my rear passenger door. I checked the fuses, and they were fine. I even tried replacing them for the hell of it...still couldn't open the rear passenger door. Looks like I need another actuator change. Can anyone tell me how much the dealership charges for a single actuator change?

Dealer near me gave a quote of $287.38 to replace one actuator. Which I probably won't do, because the part is $73.19 on ECS' website, plus I'll pick up a door trim removal kit. There's DIYs on YouTube and the forums.

This is the part they provided me with, so hopefully it's what I need:
