Given that the throttle is wired and not mechanically connected, the map between physical displacement 0-100% and actual throttle input 0-100% doesn't have to be linear, monotonic, or continuous - it can be a completely arbitrary function. My understanding is that the stock map is designed to smooth out your natural tendency to be jumpy and indecisive, which leads to poor fuel economy. Under normal operation, you have to do a lot to the pedal to get much throttle, which leads to smooth, but delayed and disconnected-feeling operation. Sport mode (AT) makes a big difference - the throttle map is totally different, and the transmission is tuned a bit too. And the fuel economy numbers TANK for aggressive driving.

My understanding is that the OFT tune doesn't simply shift the map up (so the throttle responds SOONER, but with the same function), but rather rewrites it so that the map function feels more like what you'd expect.

I kind of want to test drive an OFT'd car, it sounds really lovely to me

Believe me - the OFT tune is like heaven compared to the PBX.
  • Everything about it is better & makes driving the car much more enjoyable. I'm sure the other tunes net the same result, & upon dyno chart comparison directly from different Mfg. - they all appear to yield same power gains...
  • I've also noticed that my cold weather driveablity is much improved over the PBX. Same as when warm. Fairly important where I live during winter (especially this year). The PBX would have a definite hesitation until the car was properly warmed up.
  • Difference is the excellent touch screen unit itself and it's many capabilities (holds 5 tunes, data logs, reset adaptations) for such a low cost of $399. No shipping DME back & forth with downtime, or hoping there is an install shop close nearby (which there isn't in my area).
  • You can switch back & forth with any of the tunes you have loaded, or back to stock within 12 min tops
  • The interface is user friendly & graphics great + unit is smaller size, but just right.
  • Can be used with N51/N52/N53 or N54/N55 with simple template download/install & proper tune download/install.

Plus Shiv is constantly upgrading the capabilities - he is just about ready to release the new upgraded/enhanced data logging capabilities for all units

So are most of you guys noticing a lag driving AT? Mine is a MT, and I do not really notice a lag in the throttle response, but then again, I am in control of the downshift timing.

No lag here either stock or modded.

There's a lag in downshift, for sure, but that's sort of a given. It's not so much that I notice a throttle "lag" - it's that the early displacement range doesn't do much. If you want quick power, you have to go much closer to WOT to get it. And of course, the engine hovers in a much lower power range by default, around 1.5 or 2k. Good for gas, not for fun.

The sport mode fixes lots of that trading off fuel economy, but I suspect there's still lots of room for improvement.

It is both, hence greater overall power and slightly smoother torque curve. It aggressively decreases A/F ratio in some parts, which will be bad for economy but good for torque.

But the most immediately noticeable aspect will be throttle remap.

I just ordered mine, can't wait to get it! I got question for those with modified N52s. It's possible to get an E90/E92 be as fast as an F30 328i?

yeah. a 330 is probably similarly fast. up on power but a little more weight and less torque. Probably similar in the end

Sorry guys... You will need to load up template file to get all the functions back after the last update. I should be able to have that up for download on Monday. I was not aware of this issue until now.

I thought I was alone with this problem after the upgrade. I send email about this on February 11. This was the answer:

I have forwarded your info to the head tuner. He will be getting back to you directly.

This is the menu I get:

Well, I can't speak for Shiv, but from the beginning it was fully understood and stated by Shiv that the $399 was the introductory price, & that it would be going to it's regular $499 price at some point...

In fact, I think he let it go at the $399 price longer than he 1st stated it was gonna last

I was among the 1st to get the unit when it was initially released back at very beginning of January - the $399 price then was only supposed to last a couple weeks.

Even at $499, it's still a viable, less expensive alternative to the AA tune with Simon (to be comparable with OFT features)

@Shiv, I am still waiting for answers about the Msv70 and the support here in Spain? A mate who runs a workshop specialized in tuning with other brands and many years of experience is interested in making that happen.

Please come back to me as soon as you can.

Cheers

+1

You guys don't like that fact that it's $100 more than it used to be, tough. Should have bought it when it was still new.

Hi guys,
Please update to the new template file. It should restore your diagnostic selections that you may have lost since the last automatic firmware update. It can be downloaded from here: http://www.procedetuning.com/328i/do...s-4/index.html

MSD80 guys should use the MSD80 Template
MSV70/80 guys should use the MSV70/89 Template

To upgrade to this template file, just connect your Tablet to your computer and launch OpenFlash Manager. Then go to the "Upgrade" section, select this appropriate Template file and click on "Start". This process takes 30 seconds or so.

Please let me know if that gets things back in proper functioning order

Cheers,
shiv

Thanks, Shiv. Could not try the new template but will try out when i am home from work.
I would suggest to write the version number to the downloads on your website like in the N54 section. So you can always see if something has changed.

Not able to test it out but i checked the new msv70 file and it is slightly larger than the old one so I assume it should be good. Plus the file name was changed. You most likely reused the old one downloaded. But still possible theres an issue with the download..
