Shit 13% tint you might as well spray paint your windows...

Take the tint off and go to court, they'll dismiss it.

Why do you people tint your windows? It cheapens the car and stereotypes you.

What a pathetic comment, what tints has to do with "wanna be gangsta" there are better reasons to have tints.

To the original poster, you were breaking the law and you knew it. Now you want to complain when the law is enforced? Grow up. Take responsibility for your own actions. It is part of being an adult.

As far as the idea of LEO's looking to give you a hard time, and or giving tickets to generate revenue. Are you serious? Do have any idea how little ticket revenue offsets the daily costs involved of your local law enforcement agency. Not to mention the risk involved in traffic stops. More LEO's are injured or killed in routine traffic stops then in any other part of their jobs. They are risking their lives every time they make a stop, it is not just something they do to be a asshole.

Bottom line, if you don't break the law, you have nothing to worry about. If you treat the LEO with respect they will reciprocate.
C'mon, tickets do not generate money?...lol be real, I think there is good and bad cops out there, but if you select this career for you and you know that your life will be in danger everyday, then don't complaint.

Phatr1s,

You don't get it. The fines from your tickets don't go to Law Enforcement, they get fed into all kinds of other areas. Take a look at this example from Michigan. The majority of traffic fine dollars go to libraries. I am sure that really motivates cops to write tickets.

http://house.michigan.gov/hfa/PDFs/traf.pdf

Take a look at page 27 and 28.

"In the case of the State Police, the department receives a portion of the revenue generated by traffic tickets issued by its troopers; the revenue generated by the three $5 assessments applied to most traffic citations is appropriated to the State Police budget."

"The department is the end recipient, however, of less than $6 (Table 5 shows an estimate of $5.87) for each citation it issues; the remainder of the assessment revenue is distributed to other agencies."

Six dollars, hardly seems worth the time and risk.

Probably the gun control laws.

The police in Europe are incredibly polite (while they take your money). When I was living in Europe, I was shocked at how respectful the police consistently are. They don’t have to worry about someone pulling a gun on them quite like they do in the US.

Most police in the US will lighten up when they see you are no threat. Still, there is a significant percentage that let their power go to their head. Its unfortunate that the job too often comes with an attitude (at least in this country). There are enough bad apples to give the whole country’s police force a bad rap.

It's true that not everyone we deal with is a violent criminal, but one person out of a hundred is....go make a hundred traffic stops and see how long it takes you to get lucky and find that one...I know from experience....

Watch this and you will see why we are cautious when we approach a vehicle...

Its alot harder to shoot someone when they arent standing right in front of you..

you never know if it's grandma you just pulled over or someone who doesnt wanna go back to prison and will do anything to avoid it....

case in point..this was a simple traffic stop for an illegal u turn, the driver was a well known drug suspect, which they did not know at the time of the pursuit, you see how this ends...from a simple traffic stop a man loses his life and in the process tried to kill at least two officers..all because he didnt wanna go back to jail...

until you have walked in our shoes and done our job from our aspect, dont criticize an officer because of the way he approaches you...doesn't mean he is scared at all...it means he is making sure he goes home to his family when the end of the shift comes...Tactical advantages play a major part in our jobs and make the difference in going home to our families at the end of the day/night or going to the morgue, because we made a stupid mistake and got complacent with everything we do..

Not to mention that you alread said that you knew your tint was illegal, but you told the officer that you didn't know what percent it was??? Whats the matter, were you scared of a ticket?? Being honest with an officer is the best way to avoid a ticket...I hear "I dont know" ninety nine times over, and hear the truth once....the ones that tell the truth usually get out of there with a warning....

Just a little food for thought...

Agreed, the president must be "wannabe gangsta" too. Oh and people who drive in limos too. I seen a Bentley with dark tint a few weeks ago must of been another one!

Seriously some people don't like dark tint on cars; I do. Each to their own but WTF does it have to do with "gangstas". Stupidest comment I've heard today.

It has EVERYTHING to do about it. It is to be expected that a luxury car (Limo, Rolls, Maybach) would have tint so the rider (they usually have their own drivers) can maintain some level of anyonymity. Super dark tint on a passenger car just about anywhere other than Fla or out west is pure ghetto/rice/wanna be gangsta white boy. I could care less if a cop who pulled you over is willing to shoot first because he can't see through your dark tint to determine whether or not you're digging for a weapon.

This afternoon, I shot over to Lowes and got the can, brush, and bucket...driving home with my girl and I see a statie (undercover) has a guy pulled over and is getting back in his car.

I slowed down with traffic slowing down and passed him (windows up).

My windows are tinted 13% (previously checked by another statie).

I'm in the left lane laughing about how he might pull me over cause looked like he had a stick up his ass, look in the rear view and he's on my tail. I merge into the right lane and watch as he kicks back (probably running my plate).

Next thing I know he's behind me with the blue lights on so I pull over and knew it was for the tints.

I roll the windows down and wait for him only to see him barely as he slowly and cautiously approaches my car (lol, what are you afraid of)?

He asks for my l&r and I hand him my license only to be accused of "having another license in my wallet" -- show him the wallet (no fakes or anything).

Asks me if I knew how dark my tints were and I said no idea.

He comes back with his reader and shows me the 13% and doesn't even let me ask him a question as he walks away with me saying "officer".

He then comes back with a $250 fine.

Crazy thing is I got my car inspected today...and I have no front plate (which he never caught).

I was told by a couple friends to rip the tint off, take some shots of the car, and take it to court with my and ask for the ticket to be dismissed.

What a shitty day...any suggestions? Sorry kinda had to vent.

$16 (supplies) + $250 (ticket) = one expensive lower mesh DIY

What were you goin to do to your lower mesh grills? paint them black?

cant really do much bout it... i was given a ticket for tinted taillights before and i tried to bring it to court... no luck there because the court will still believe whatever the cop says and nothing you do to your tint will change that. i say just pay it and forget it... i went to court and i had to pay the fine anyway... it was $150 by the way
