335d - mot'd & oil changed for £70 - well happy

as per title

car passed with flying colours & had the oil changed at the same time. MOT was £27 ( half price) & the rest was the oil change using castrol edge.

Done at National Tyres, Derby.

Happy chappy

You get a Service stamp in your book?

Was going to use National but they didn't have a stamp which was a shame.

No. Didn't want one & didnt bother asking.

Out of warranty & plan to keep the car for 5 years then it will be 10 years old so dont think full history will be that important by then.

£150 I probably saved by not going to BMW can offset any future repairs.

A full service history is vital when selling any car IMHO. Does not need to be main dealer but there are too many cars on the market so buyers can be choosy.

I guess at 10 years old its less important as the car will only be worth around £5k.

I'd rather let these monkeys do an MOT & an oil change than the local twats ( stealers) who have let me down everytime I have been there.

It's only a car mate. Not brain sugery.

Find some attitudes very strange indeed here

Guess it's the same as the "can't get thicker than a kwik fit fitter" thread. The quality of service at different branches will be massive in some cases.

I'm friendly with one of the directors of National Tyres and it just so happens that my local branch is full of absolute mongs. My local branch is their worst performing garage in the country and causes them nothing but headaches. 1 of their fitters actually tried to buy my last car but when I found out where he worked I refused to sell it to him for fear of what he would do to her

Thats a good price, and I read on here a while back its genuine castrol oil they use. Dealers are a rip off for a simple oil change, but if your under warranty your sort of stuck with them.
as for service stamp, I would say as long as you keep receipts for oil changes and parts, its as good as a service book stamp.

How can they put the proper oil in for £43??

You can't buy it wholesale for that price!
Well you can, it is around £4.50 a litre in 60 litre drums.

That is a pretty impressive price and worth cosidering, however personally I would rather get BMW to do it, you get a stamp and it keeps the car up to date on their system, if you do suddenly want to sell it that will make a hell of a difference to the price.
My old man had one service on his 730d with a BMW specialist as he was recommended them, and his bid went from £17,000 to £13,000 when they realised, BMW could no longer retail it so they had to get trade bids in and use CAP instead of Glasses.

I paid £105 for the oil service on my 320d, plus they updated the software on the gearbox while in too, that is another reason to take it to BMW, you may get software updates.

That MOT charge is well below trade price....definitely a loss-leader for them!

I would seriously question the engine oil they've used to do the lube service at that low price.

Using the wrong engine oil is bad for the DPF for starters.

I havent got a dpf. Took mine off after having some work done at the dealers as they managed to leave a sensor off the dpf causing the DPF to keep throwing a code. Not wanting to go back to the dealers ( everytime they solve one problem they leave me with another) I just bought straight through pipe & fitted it myself ( thats when we noticed the sensor off) & got the dpf mapped off the car & so far so good. Deffo runs better without it & sounds far more sporty inside & out.

As for the oil effecting the DPF you would have to be very unlucky & there's a lot of fearmongering (very apparent in this thread even) regarding bmw's thats probably put out by the dealers themselves.

Regarding all this long life oil I think this is just a marketing ploy to keep servicing costs down.

I will change my oil next year when I have my MOT done which will be 12 months /8k miles & not the 19k my i drive is currently telling me.

The only problem I see with some services is where they suck the old oil out rather than dropping it through the sump plug which should also push out any contaminants.

I had an MOT today at Mr Clutch and it was £29 with a voucher, typical Southern prices.

Still worth it and sailed through after 30 mins testing. I would have expected it to pass with 16,100 on the clock though.

I had my oil changed at kwik fit (brentwood, essex) for £50 all in, using the correct oil and including filter change - and watched the guy do the entire process 10 ft away from me on the ramp.

Did you supply the oil?
