Do you see Shell or Mobile1 as a better alternative to BMW oil or just a cheaper one?
I run Rotella in both of my BMW diesels. I do not follow manufactures oil change intervals as I find them rather ridiculous. I did however, run Rotella for extended interval (12k miles) and provided oil analysis for the board. Numbers were impressive.

Just changed the oil with T6 after 13000 miles, I'll do a OA on the next change. I've run way longer OCIs with the same oil in my TDI, I'm not too worried.

I just ran an 8,000 mile OCI with T6 and the TBN came back at 8.4.

Not sure. Here's a link to Tractor supply. Is this "much less" than $28? It's often on sale for 19.99, just need to catch the sale.

Mobil 1 is fine oil. I ran amsoil diesel oil, Mobil 1 diesel oil and rotella T6 in my old excursion. They're all fantastic oils, but after a few blackstone analysis per brand, I only run T6.

Best of luck on your quest.
I went to Walmart today for unrelated reason and low and behold, 1gallon T6 jugs for $21.36. Weird why the online price was shown so much higher. I grabbed 2 jugs for next change.

They didn't have the OBD 2 reader I was looking for to handle Dodge "yearly inspection routine". I got it at auto zone. I'm down to one "not ready" and CEL light off. I should pass inspection tomorrow unless light comes on while driving there. It's the evap every year.

Went to Walmart today for oil and saw this. since Stage 2.5 ran T6. today used Mobil1. I've always used Mobil1 in gassers and never has issues even after 250k on each car. one I even torn down the engine and it was spotless clean at ~200k. Let's hope for the same here.

Nevermind...looks like amazon price is back up to the $22 area. Weird how they do that. Two days ago ordered 4 jugs for $67, including NYS sales tax.
