Dubrovnik/Croatia - Anyone Been on Holiday There?

Looking to take the family away - some friends and their children coming to - and I'm considering Dubrovnik or somewhere else in Croatia and wondered if anyone had been and could give some advise and thoughts on where to go/stay etc?

We are looking at going the last week of July.

There is going to be 4 adults and 4 children - we want sun, sea and beaches - ideally something reasonably priced - would consider a villa or apartments etc.

I will have a look to see whats available via owners direct et al - but if anyone can point me in the direction of something that narrows the choices down that would be great.

Dubrovnik looks lovely but would consider other locations if they come highly recommended.

Any thoughts or advice greatly appreciated.

Steve

We went to Croatia about 3 years ago and loved it. Stayed up the coast from Dubrovnik. Hotel was fine, lots of Russians as the country seems very popular with them but was no problem. Some lovely excursions as there are loads of Islands and coastline to explore. Don't bother with the local wine , they went on an and on about it so I bought a bottle at 20 euro and it was rubbish. Great family destination , my kids loved it and would defo go again.

We're stopping off in Dubrovnik in August when we're on a boat, people before who have been loved the place too. One of the places I'm most looking forward to visiting.

Great, thanks chaps. Been trawling through Owners Direct tonight and the villas/apartments are either very expensive or cheap but therefore pretty shite!

I've never been but heading out there last week in July myself!

Flying into Split and island hopping down before flying back from Dubrovnik. The islands are apparently the best parts, but I've never been so wouldn't know!

I was there just before it all kicked off and Mart had to go over and knock some heads together

It is lovely. A bit basic when we went (still pictures of Tito everywhere) but the coast is stunning.

Your not kidding. The coastal area's are amazing! Proper drop dead gorgeous scenery.

Had my biggest sphyncter twitch to date whilst on some R&R there, swimming + a hind gunship...
