Really good info Bimmerforlife. I was really up for this all the way up to the point where you said "put your car down and re-program the iDrive ".
What a pain. On old bimmers, it was just about plugging in same cables. I may stand down on this after all. Thanks again for your info. |

Yes, the CD changer install does require reprogramming before the system will recognize it. This is actually true with most makes, VW, MB, etc. I don't know that it is a "full" reprogramming - probably more like the updates required when the alarm is installed, etc.
But anytime you mess with the programming there is a risk they will have problems and it will take longer than planned. I know, I had a 7 Series loaner for three days once because of it.

Hi there
Completely new to what looks like an excellent forum ! I took delivery of my E90 last Friday and am really pleased with it ! My only small problem is with the 6FL option ( ordered with the car ). I purchased the official Y cable separately from my BMW dealer, but I too have the FM switching problem mentioned earlier in this thread. Has anyone found a solution other than those posted previously ?( i.e to set a memory button to switch back when it does happen - not ideal ) The dealer can't offer me any help, looking at the posts here it doesn't appear to be a faulty cable and my Ipod is latest generation, so I am assuming a software issue...? Hope someone can help me ! It happens at least 6 or 7 times during my 30 minute commute !!!! Thanks |

DrMonkee - welcome aboard!
Sorry to hear that you are plagued with this mysterious problem too. I have yet to experience it (searching again for wood upon which to knock). I don't think anyone's dealer has yet admitted there is a problem officially. Does anyone in the states have a PUMA case opened yet for this?

Thanks for the quick reply LEDZEP.
Apparently my BMW dealer has emailed BMW Head Office on this and is waiting on an answer - if I hear anything I will post it but any help in the meantime from any other forum members would be greatly appreciated ! Thanks again DrM. |

I hope the first person to be provided an answer or solution will share it here. Many seem to be having this trouble.

I hope you guys have some ideas on this. Took delivery of my 335i coupe around a week ago, and got the Y-cable a few days later. It works great, and I can work through all my playlists. The only problem is, at random times, the system kicks me out of ipod and sends me to the next input source, which happens to be FM radio. I'm listening along, and all of a sudden, LOUD FM MUSIC!! It has done this repeatedly. Sometimes after 30 seconds of music, sometimes after 30 minutes of music, but it's damn annoying. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

The only thing similar I have experience is that sometimes after the car has been sitting (usually for several days) it will switch to FM when I start it.

I was just wondering if it had anything to do with the iPod, there is a setting in the iPod called Sleep Mode under Main Menu and you can opt to turn it on or off, has anyone tried to see if that setting is conflicting with 6FL?
I'm sure this is not it but thought I would throw it out here. |

So Ledzep or anyone else here that seems to Not be having the problem, I wonder if you could tell other what make iPod you have and under About, what Version Software your running.
Mine is a 30 GB Video iPod Software Ver 1.2.1 Collecting this type of info, could this maybe help us to see if it's happening to certain type versions or makes? |

I'll chip in with my details (even though it's a Series 1 not an E90) but I've got the professional stereo with the 7 speaker system upgrade and a 6CD changer.
My iPod is a 40Gb Photo with v1.2.1 software and I've not yet had the source switch on me. |

The only reason I suggested about the iPod Ver is, you would think BMW tested this iPod 6FL cable and interface for many many months before this went into production, clocking in hrs used on both iDrive and non iDrive...but I wonder what version of iPod software were they using to do all there testing? Is it possible they used one iPod version software and some here who are having trouble are using a different software ver and something is conflicting. Just throwing some thoughts out.

I am using a 30GB Video iPod and in 4 days and 220 miles have not seen the problem mentioned above. One small fact - I keep the HOLD button activated. Not sure if this could be the issue but thought I would toss it out there.
Do you all have your iPod in a relativel "fixed" position so it cannot rattle around ?? Is there something in the glove box that could be hitting any of the buttons ?? I have the built in case that hold it as well.

msimon18, you could be on to something as well. Do you have the 6FL or are you using the dealer installed? So it hasn't happened to you and you have the iPod in the Hold position. I wonder the people it's happening to don't have it in the hold position and even though the iPod is secure in the armrest or in the leather cover case under the armrest if the iPod rubs or hits up against something it may go into a pause mode thus cutting off the power to the 6FL.
Could the Hold function be causing this? Has that been mentioned here before? |
