Don't know why they call it "sunglasses holder"... on my E90 none of my sunglasses fit into it... maybe they are bigger on 5 series...

You mean you want to remove the center console to swap the ashtray for the sunglasses holder pocket?

Fairly sure that's the guide I used.

As for no sunglasses actually fitting in it, my oversized Aviators fit in it fine and they're pretty big.

I just googled aviator sunglasses. They have a flat design that's why. I use sports sunglasses for driving and none of them fit.

Well, go and get a pair that fit just for the smile factor,,,,

And I did it this afternoon, photo on its way, once I saw the YouTube clip I went back and had another go, a gentle but forcible tug and off it came, unplugged 2 looms, pulled the gear leaver through the hole, undid the 4 screws, unclip the cover then the revers to put it all back together....And my sunglasses fit in it........

I would but I look like a nob in aviators...

I take it you were lucky to get the lid off without breaking the clips?

No one gets the lid off without breaking any clips, but it's got quite a few spare. Most awkward part of it.

Beginners luck. I found out about the ashtray conversion while looking for info about trim wrapping (I could not stand the silver trim). I thought it was a good idea to get it done while I'm at it as I don't smoke. Had no idea what those clips look like so I just pried with a screwdriver and they were all intact when the cover came off. I probably would break some if I had to do it again. They are not designed to be taken off...
