ON...then...OFF!!!
Took family to dinner last night.
Started up the car...three seconds later... THE CAR JUST SHUT OFF! (Yellow Service Engine Light came on.) Pushed the button...and... It started back up and ran fine. No codes. No warning lights. WTF?? |

Is it possible the FOB backed out??...and shut the engine off??
I don't have the instant replay to remember if I had to push the FOB back in or not. I remember fiddling with it...but it was so quick! So far...it hasn't done it again. |

no the FOB did not come out. i was so pissed off because this happened for a whole week. then all of a sudden it just went away. Hasn't happened since, but now almost every time I start it in the morning or when cold the half engine symbol comes on , then I turn the car off immediately and back on and its fine again.

Would this require BMW service checking the computer?? Anybody know if this is a "KNOWN" issue? |

It took it to a dealer two days later. Thy said that they found failure codes stored in the computer. They replaced my mass airflow sensor under warranty. So, if you are sure that the car behaved improperly, it might make sense to take it to the dealer. However, I remember that the "unexplained engine shut off while coasting" problem has been reported here before and, if memory serves, it didn't usually leave any codes in the computer. I don't know whether your issue is related. Last edited by AndreyT; 11-05-2012 at 05:36 PM.. |
