Oh and also another question... About the bms box, I tried DIY but found a wire that I can't replace... Is it there's different spec for it?

I just plugged mine in and it works fine ... no tickets yet - touch wood. I think the HK ones should be set up right out of the box.

I guess V1s must be in real "demand". How does V1 compare to Beltronic?

Have you tested the V1 so far against the various speed camera and LIDARs around town? How's the response?

Hehehe, are you scared that the police would confiscate it? Why should they? It's not illegal to have radar detectors in HK and if the police does confiscate it, that's appropiating your property and you can argue that in court.

Lol not scared about that ^^ just I drive a bit fast plus my exhaust is a bit loud hate to bring my car to inspection... Nowadays the police are catching European cars alot for illegal modding... Bloody hell they have one inspector to check your car right there at the road block....

Haha, then don't drive that fast around the known police speed trap spots. Also avoid street racing with other cars, particularly with the those second-rate damn Japanese modded cars. Even if they try to provoke you, it's not worth it, as a certain Aston Martin driver found out earlier(after getting caught by the police racing some cheap Jap. modded cars). In North America, we call them "ricers", in the uk they are "boy racers". Bimmer drivers then to steer clear of them so as not to be sullied by them. The temptation is strong to teach them a lesson, but at the end of the day, your car is worth alot more then their cars, and your life and reputation is worth far more then some road punk in a ugly modded corolla. And statistically, they will end up in a serious crash sooner or later by the way they drive, hehehe.

Personally, I enjoy driving fast too, but usually alone and far away from traffic, if possible. Otherwise, in everyday driving I drive in a fairly reasonable fashion and keep ( or at least try to keep) my aggressive instincts in check, since the darn police are everywhere these days. Of course if an empty (or a straight highway road with few traffic), then I will take advantage of the opportunity, hahaha.

(The only Japanese sport cars I really respect is the miata and the fairlady, both are great cars.)

That being said, some police can be total a**holes too and catching people simply to meet their quota, which is why a speed detector comes in handy...

Question: If an officer pulls you over for speeding, can you ask to see his radar for the clocked speed for proof? Back in Toronto, you have the right to request the officer to show his radar.

I ask this because I saw an officer on his bike behind bushes on the on-ramp on N. Lantau Hwy. He did not hold a radar but was fishing for speeders peeking through the bushes.

Good question, I'll ask my lawyer friend about that.

Anyway, it's off that the police would fish for speedsters if they don't have a radar, they won't have any evidence to back up otherwise, or are they there for visual deterrence, but if so, why would they be hiding in bushes? Hmmm...

In the mean time, I go to Tung Chung and the airport alot, which part of the on-ramp are you referring to? The one to disney (Heading to Tung Ching direction) or the one heading to Tsuen Wan?

Or are you referring to the Tung Chung/Airport section?

I've driven a bit...fast on certain sections of the highway, but thankfully haven't been caught in that part for speeding since I only drive fast in brief and short bursts, and I know when and where to drive a little fast and when to drive slow. That is of course crucial information if you want to avoid a speeding ticket (i did get caught for talking on a cellphone once , but at least they don't deduct points for that ).

My advice: Generally, not a good idea to speed on the N. lantau highway during the morning weekday commuting hours, the police are often there to bust you.
