I'm looking forward to seeing the brushed steel Scothprint on the trim. I'm going to have to buy more vinyl anyway so it will be good to compare the look to this before I bite the bullet.

Have the first piece of trim covered with brush steel. I'll have pics up in the morning. This stuff is amazingly easy to work with. Love the color!

Wow, that looks great! That's the perfect amount of contrast for a black interior. I'm simply afraid that the brushed scotchprint will be too black. But yes, Di-Noc is a lot harder than scotchprint to work with in the corners. Heat and patience are really, really important when working with this material.

I have alum. trim from the factory (which imo is nice) I would want to try to pick up another set to wrap maybe wood trim..hmm

Removed all pieces of trim just fine except for the ashtray cover. I was reading another thread on how to do it and after prying off the cover I realized there are really two pieces to it. The cover in Burl Wood and then a black layer. Those two pieces together make up the actual cover or lid to the ashtray. I cannot figure out how to remove the cover from the ashtray.

Other than that just take your time is all I can say. A heat gun or dryer comes in very handy. Some of the bends and corners are not easy. Making several cuts in the vinyl around bends and corners makes it easier. Its amazing how giving this stuff a bit of heat makes it stretch and conform.

I have everything covered except for the main dash piece which I'll do tonight. Need to figure out what to do or what to order for the ashtray cover.

Stopper: looking FANTASTIC man!!! I just noticed your pics on page 1. I think you did a great job personally. Also, thanks for the heads up regarding the sizing of the sheet and coordination with the "brushed" effect. I had not thought of that, especially with the consoles too.

Where'd did you end up sourcing the dinoc brushed graphite from?


Jeff: The steel look killer! Thanks for the additional pics. Your console turned out great. My buddy has swapped out trims before, I'll give him a buzz regarding the ashtray cover. I'm also curious as to how the little metal "lip" works in with the cover too and how to work around it or with it when wrapping.

There are two ways to handle the little metal lip.

1) Just cover over it and then cut it out of the vinyl. You can press the vinyl down around the lip to get a nice cut.

2) There is a way to pry it off and then you'll need to glue it back on. There are three spots on the underside where you can tell the plastic has been melted in place.

I will probably go with option 1.

I'm liking the brushed graphite look. The brushed steel does not look much different than the stock aluminum trim.

You are not going to believe this!!! So last night I say to my girlfriend...this trim doesnt look quite the same installed. Today at lunch I decide to pull out my samples again to compare with what I thought I had installed being Brushed Steel. Its not Brushed Steel! Its Brushed Titanium! Take a look at the pics....

Not sure if I like or not. I dont hate it but had thought the trim would be a bit darker after looking at the sample before hand. LOL

Now what to do?? They are sending me another 20 SQ FT of Brushed Steel. I think I spent at least 6-8 hours working on this. May have to see if anyone is interested in trading out their trim.....

haha jeff, nooooooo! I would have been so peeved the second I put the brushed steel sample next to the finished trim and realized I wrapped a different finish! Your wrapping job still looks awesome and the brushed titanium is still very nice. Looking at your last couple of pictures, I'm thinking I might like the colder look of the brushed steel a little more though.

agent11br - Thanks! I'm going to be tackling a few more pieces this week, and take my time a little more. Plus I just picked up a real heat gun now which should make my life a lot easier. I was using a hairdryer before and I don't think I was getting the vinyl soft enough. I bought it from the ebay seller importcarpartsplus, the only place I could find it.

I got my samples in today and I am not impressed with it. It's not convincing and it clearly looks like vinyl. I think I will stick with the OEM Aluminium.

I was really close to buying some brushed graphite wrap since the OEM aluminum is a little too light for my tastes... but if it doesn't come off well, I may hold off...

How's the texture feel compared to actual metal?

I just got the Scotchprint Brushed Steel in, and having seen the "dark" Di-Noc aluminum, I can make some comparisons.

1. The Scotchprint brushed steel, in terms of color, is very similar to Space Gray (a major plus in my book!)...a few shades of gray off, but it's as close as we're going to get.
2. It's got a pretty glossy finish. In no way is it a "mirrored" surface, but it's definitely got some shine to it.
3. Scotchprint is only half as thick as Di-Noc (4 mil vs. 8 mil) so the "brushed" effect on the Scotchprint is not as convincing, presumably because it cannot be cast/cut as deeply.

I have a sample of the brushed steel attached to my trim pieces, I'm trying to get a feel for it, and decide what I want to do.

Having brushed titanium on now and think its very close. I highly doubt anyone looking at OEM aluminum and the 1080 vinyl will tell a difference by touch or look. The only difference I can see is the vinyl has a bit a metallic flake in it that you only notice when the sun hits it directly.
