Oil Change.... Yuck.

Per my CBS, my oil is good for another 13,000 miles or until July of 2012.

I don't feel comfortable waiting that long, the oil that came out of my car is nasty as hell. Butt dyno shows 500hp gain.

What oil are you running? I am assuming you have 2k miles on your oil? How many miles do you have on the car and did you recently change oil?

Not sure what you are trying to say here. Oil is "nasty" when you change it, regardless if it's been in the engine 3,000 or 15,000 miles. It is oil, it runs around a hot engine, picks up contaminates, and gets dirty. It is supposed to be “nasty”.

What you need to understand about oil is that it never loses its lubricating properties, what does happen is the oil gets contaminated, and then begins to sludge. Once sludge starts, it clogs the oil passages to the internal engine parts, which are then starved of oil and begin to prematurely wear and get out of tolerance. Most people think the oil, as it gets dirty, becomes abrasive and causes wear, which is not the case.

No clue how many miles were on this oil; I just know the dealer said it was fine because the CBS said it was fine. I personally put 4k on the car since I purchased it in Feb..

There's no harm in being OCD about; I did it for peace of mind - knowing that I was unsure of the mileage/age of the existing oil.

My last car required oil changes every 3750 miles!

If you follow the story along with what was disclosed on BITOG the vehicle was not maintained in accordance with BMW maintenance intervals.

I'm well aware of that.. I just remember seeing a sludge bmw engine thread a while back and when the guy above said sludge it reminded me of it. Don't connect the two.

Just changed mine at 94k, it left me stranded, overheating, small leak and really dirty fluid. You may want to get it changed along with the pan/filter.

why does it cost $500,000 to run the oil in a 2001 M54 for 370 hours?

i change my oil every 7,500 miles.

im also a firm believer in NOT servicing AT's. i feel that the transmission picks up particles that get lodged in certain spots, and the transmission gets used to that. changing the oil can dislodge these particles and cause problems in the future.

There is some logic to what you say, but this is not a good long term maintenance plan. It is true if you have a really high mileage AT that has begun to deteriorate to the point clutch plates are disintegrating a fluid change may dislodge some of that crud and cause problems, but the AT would need to be in pretty bad shape anyway for this to be an issue. The better plan IMO is to do regular fluid changes before the AT gets to that point.
