Drove a GTR

While out cruising in the 1M yesterday, I just so happened to pass my local Nissan dealer here in the Mandeville area. They had a 2010 Program GTR on the lot they were asking 68900 for. I wasn't really interested in the car, as it is I am considering selling the 1M. The wife thought the car looked cool and it is a DCT. I had heard so much about the car and the salesman was really anxious to sell it that I at least got to spend a few hours driving it.

The car is an absolute MONSTER. It is a freight train on wheels, 0-140 is about 10 seconds, with no traction control on there is still no wheel spin, launch control is mind numbing. The car handles the curves every bit as good as my 1M at even higher speeds. The interior is TERRIBLE however, poor ergonomics, I am pretty sure the radio came out of an Altima. The exterior car size is more 3 series than 1 series, but the inside demisions are tighter than my 1, they should have just left the back seats out. The factory Recaros are amazing, but you sit so low in the car, the transmission hump is your armrest and it all just feels a bit "off". The DCT in the rear is amazingly fast and intelligent, but it is extremely clunky and very loud. It truely is an amazing machine overall though, such a shame it is a Nissan I guess, but if it were a BMW they may be asking twice the price. We went to the grocery in it and a lady asked us what kind of car it was, tempted to tell her the bat-mobile, but instead told her it was the new Altima, she didn't even second guess it.

They offered me 49k for my car on the trade, used car manager said it was the first time in his 20 years at the dealer offering someone more for their used car than the sticker price when the car was new, lol.

I got to drive one a few months back when a vendor had their company GTR around. At the time I owned a 550+ hp Saleen Mustang, but something about that GTR just made it seem so much faster. Perhaps it was the brutality of AWD and just instant traction.

My friend just did an Alpha 9+, breath taking car. I dont think i'd go for a GT-r tho over 1M or an M3.

Very nice review.

I wanted to get out of My FBO E90 LCI M-sport 335i N54 and jump into a GTR.

Outside the car is amazing, the power, engine and tranny are amazing aswell!

But the interior is not worth the $, looks a lil cheap. Its straight out a g37. The navi, the dashboard, steering wheel, paddles, stalks etc.
No trunk, its more like a tub.

And its really damn small, and there are really no backseats, just for kids maybe.
So now, im second guessing even getting into one at all. Life has been so great in my 3, 4 doors, room in the back for people, great interior.

Though I would like to own a GTR, the front is so hideous to me. To be honest, I was always in love with the Skyline GT-R: front back, side, the car looked so charismatic.

The GTR is a great car for the performance, but the maintenance bill that comes with it is the real ball buster.

I loved driving the GT-R, but I felt disconnected from the car & road. Awesome cars, but I don't know that I'd buy one just yet.

My GT-R has been by far....BY FAR...the best automotive purchase I have ever made. I absolutely love the thing to DEATH. This is coming from a self proclaimed manual transmission snob. They are fantastic stock, but add just a mid pipe and a custom flash and the 09-11 models increase power by *100 whp* on pump gas. I can't tell you how surprised I am that I like this car as much as I do. It just feels right. It's very honest about it's job. I love the slightly clunky and noisy gearbox. It fits the car perfectly. To be honest, I find the 335 to be a very boring car, even with all the power. It's too smooth, too synthetic. The GT-R makes no bones about it's purpose and it is HOLY $%@# fast with just a few mods especially on the street.

Why is the 2008 model less modable than the 09-11? I heard all GTR's are still the same engine that are just tuned differently correct? If so, can't an aftermarket tune make them all equal similar to how we do 335i and 335is?

There is no 08 model in the US. Ours starts with 09. The engines, turbos, and for the most part, trans are all the same. The newer ones just use more of the reserve capacity that the older ones left on the table for aftermarket tuners. Word on the street is that the 2014 does actually have larger turbos. We shall see.

I had a 2010 GTR. The power is seductive but thats where it ended for me. I always felt like the car was driving me , not the other way around. I'm not bashing ,it just wasn't for me. This is the one car that truly made me wonder, when I it tossed it into a corner, did I just hit the perfect line with the perfect speed or was it the computer?Needless to say I didn't hang on to it very long.

Yep & bye bye warranty. They are not cheap to fix.

You find the 335 too boring & smooth, but love the GT-R? GT-R is a beat no doubt, but you feel no more connected to the road & car than you do in a 335. The GT-R does all the work for you. The car is driving you not the other way around. Just my opinion. Maybe I'd change my mind if I had more seat time in one.

Curious as to what price you got. When I looked in 2011, I was quoted around $1,600 a mo lease.
