I'd like to know this as well. and the sizes of them. holy crap thats a lot of boost!! god damn. thats over 2 bar. so how much boost does the JB3 maps increase to? also interested. that would be cool to see. i wouldn't mind one. it would be cool to view all this thru iDrive or something. Quote:
The diesel seems more efficient at idle then moving under 20 mph like in traffic Good night guys! |

I know sometimes the pressure in bars sometimes includes atmospheric on top of the regular boost pressure. So I though you would subtract 1 bar from the absolute pressure.

As far as the coupe, that car ran perfectly post-nitrous. It was a great running car. Just got rid of it in anticipation of getting an 2010 N54. But when they were all sold out, I waited and watched the N55 tuning scene, but became intrigued with the diesel. Hence, where I am now. My 335i is faster, but the diesel is easier to drive faster around town and in most situations. It just pulls constantly without even having to rev the engine or downshift. Its kind of like the pull of a powerful ski boat. Engine note just stays the same pretty much as you feel the acceleration. Very pleasant to drive.

Why didn't you go with a reflash? Like Evolve. A friend of mine reflashed his 335d E92 and the results are quite impressive. ~350hp (crank) and 700-730Nm.
You can reflash you car back to stock within less than 5 minutes and the flash holder can store 3 different maps (stock, one for daily driving and the most aggressive for racing).

Hotrod that's a very nice looking car. Curious why you launch from 2nd? Are you waiting to break it in first?

I definitely get a faster ET and 0-60 time launching in 2nd gear. This is probably why the magazines get their slower times launching in 1st gear, as I did. Perhaps with some super traction slicks, 1st gear would get better.

The heart of the Variable Twin Turbo system comprises two turbochargers of different sizes. In contrast to the bi-turbo system, the two turbochargers do not operate parallel, but are activated at different points. Precisely coordinated, they run individually or together, increasing the pressure of the intake air to the optimum level. The greater pressure of the intake air enables a more effective combustion of the diesel fuel in the cylinder. At lower engine speeds, the intake air passes through the inactive larger turbocharger into the active smaller turbocharger, which increases the air pressure. At medium engine speeds, the larger turbocharger becomes active, forcing air under pressure into the smaller unit, which increases the pressure still further. At higher engines speeds, the larger turbocharger alone forces air into the cylinders. Despite these impressive dynamics, the fuel consumption of the Variable Twin Turbo diesel engine is exemplary low, according to EU standards. The standard diesel particle filter ensures that strict EU4 emissions standards are met. |

I read somewhere, I believe BMW technical info, that the boost is 27psi manifold pressure, something like 42 PSI absolute. Sounds about right. All diesels run huge boost. They are gutless without massive boost.

Diesels are very high compression to begin with (though that doesn't mean high manifold pressure).

Installed the JBD today. Hard to judge the speed by seat of the pants, since the engine just seems to loaf, and speed builds up without the sound of a high winding gas engine. But now the car is definitely quicker than my gas 335i ever was stock. I think the best I got on the 335i was 13.3-13.4 sec in the 1/4 mile.
JBD 335d results. (otherwise stock, RFTs, had some stuff in the trunk) 72F Ambient Temps. JBD setting 2 notches above the middle position. 13.2 at 105.1 mph 0-60 in 4.7 seconds pretty impressive for a simple 10 minute install. This car is an absolute joy to drive around town. So effortless to jet away from traffic without winding out the engine. |

Very impressive! Is 2 notches above the middle position the max setting for the JBD? Or is there one more? I'm seriously fighting the urge to make the JBD my Christmas present to myself. This isn't helping

Tested again this morning. Same temps. Union 76 Diesel instead of USA. Emptied my trunk. 2nd gear launch but let the car shift by itself this time. Fortunately the car shifts well before redline, so it works fine letting it shift by itself. 13.1 at 106.1 mph. 0-60 in 4.7 seconds (with some wheelspin) Hitting 12's with this car is a foregone conclusion. Can't believe the top DragTimes listing is still in the 13's. (Same guy over and over LOL, is he on this forum?)

Right on I knew this tuned made the car faster just did not know how much faster. Now we 335D owners have some good info for all the haters saying that the car is so slow. Are you going to keep the car tuned at 100% for everyday driving?

I absolutely love diesel vehicles. BTW, you should see quite a difference in MPGs and performance once it is fully broke in. How was the coupe's tranny once you traded it in? Also, did move everything over to your sedan?? EDIT: I read the 3rd page of this thread. Last edited by BadBoostedBMWM3; 12-12-2010 at 01:07 PM.. |

WOW just WOW,
Hotrod you are a god among us diesel owners. that is insane that the JBD takes .5 second off 0-60 & 1/4 mile. have you noticed a difference in gas mileage? when driven normally of course. what kind of gas mileage are you gettin doing these runs? wait till you fully break in your oil burner. i am truly speechless. I'd like to see some dyno charts! if you really want to go faster, swap out your rims and tires, the 195 rims w/ RFT's are REALLY heavy. I also thing a quick shifting DCT transmission will do our cars well. My sisters Jetta TDI has one and it shifts lightning fast. Diesels have a small power band so it helps to shift quicker, they also lose revs quickly where that tranny would shine. I test drove a stick TDI and it was a total different experience than a gas car. Last edited by Coolieman1220; 12-12-2010 at 08:13 PM.. Reason: Forgot my thoughts! |

On a side note: I was kind of bummed that my Droid won't stay paired with the Combox. I was all excited because when I first paired it, it worked fine. However once you turn off the ignition you have to reinstall and re-pair the Droid. Time consuming and quite a hassle. Its a compatibility issue, not a defect with the car, as my brother's iPhone worked flawlessly in my car. So, I came across the Scosche Streaming Audio Bluetooth receiver and im quite impressed with its ease of operation. It comes with a USB recharging cable to provide a 5hr run time and over 100hrs of standby. It really brings a new level of comfort/convenience to my 2008 335i. Sometimes it is nice to just get in the car and put your phone on the dash to listen to the Channel 5 New, etc, (Slingbox FTW) without having to run a cable from your center console to your dash! http://www.scosche.com/products/sfID...productID/1919

Okay, have 2000 miles on the car now. So a little more broken in and decided to put some Nitto DRs on the rear. Same exact 2.0 sec 60' times, as too much boost at launch just spins the tires. All 2nd gear launches still. Not bad results considering the diesel shifts into 3rd before you hit 60mph.
Results: 66F ambient temps. 0-60 in 4.5 seconds 1/4: 12.9 at 108.3 mph 0-100mph: 11.0 sec Had fun with a Black Z4 M-Roadster today. We were side by side waiting to go with nothing but open road ahead. He was on my right. I crept up a little bit so he might see my 335d trunk emblem. Perhaps he might think I was easy prey, lol. He took off squealing his tires, I immediately jumped a couple cars with all my torque. He must of thought he would catch me top end...wasn't happening. Also, last weekend from the Laker Game (Staples Center) to Ventura County I averaged 43.5mpg over a distance of 52 miles with an average speed of 66.8mph. And the week before that I went from San Fernando Valley to Ventura County and averaged 48mpg! I seriously don't think there are many 3800lb cars that can run 12 sec qtr miles and still get 45mpg on the fwy. This car is truly a rare breed.
