First off, it's insane to spend more than $300 on an intake.
The BMW Performance intake can be had for $795 from Tischer.
If you're worried about warranty hassles, do the OEM BMW one.
An intake is an intake.

True.. Dinan warranty isn't a factory BMW warranty though. Gotta take it to authorized Dinan dealers.

If you're doing it for performance reason BMS is the best bang for a $

If you're doing it for performance and looks Injen DCI in IMHO bang for a $$$

BMW Performance is great. Install yourself and save $500. There is a DIY and it is easy.

Go to another stealership! Those are crazy quotes.

Get the Dinan. More air coming in from the opening at the bottom of the bumper like the E9X M3. Go to a Dinan distributor. I'm sure you'll get a better quote installed.

Open air elements sound nice, but when the engine gets hot, it's sucking in all that hot air (not good for performance).

I installed the BMW Performance on my car. I think the DIY says an hour to do the install, but it might be even less. It is kind of pricey, even at Tischer ($795).

Just looking at the two, the Dinan looks like it might be the better design. But I'm only a software engineer, not a mechanical or aero. The main reason I went with the BMW was because installing the Dinan looked much more involved and it wasn't something I wanted to do or something that I wanted to pay to have done. My car's fairly new so I didn't want any warranty issues, that's why I was looking at these two. If your car is off warranty, you would save a lot going with someone else.
