Has anyone heard the new Z4 vs 335i?

I drove one today, N54 engine, same as my 335i coupe. Great car.
BUT, most importantly-Why the hell does the Z4 sound SO MUCH BETTER?!

Shorter exhaust track maybe? I drove it too, and it sounded very very nice. Especially with the DCT and the throttle blip on downshift. Too bad the car doesn't drive all that great overall though.

Why not? Is the chassis not strong enough?

I don't know, it just didn't feel right. Just felt too soft, even under the sport and sport+ settings. And you can feel the weight more I felt like. I went into my test drive of it thinking I might be trading the 335 in for it, and I came away after not impressed.

You guys have to admit the Zs look pretty sexy though.

I mean still that's not enough for me to want to trade my 335i for it but still

Not a bad ride at all IMHO, but TOO much money; comparable to the M3!!
But my point is the sound, which is much more raw and direct than our 335i's.

Down pipes? What is the answer short of Eisenmann, etc?

The Z4 is more of a tourer than a sports car. BMW tuned the chassis that way.

Thanks, Mike.

Ive logged several miles in the new Z4 35 dct and I fall in love with the car more and more every time I drive it. But its just too damn expensive and even if it is a second car its still too impractical for me because if my fiance and I were to take a trip we would either have to keep the top up or pack for like 2 nights because your aren't fitting much more in that trunk than what you can carry on to a CRJ when the top is stowed.

The new Z4 didn't get such a great write-up. Of course, we don't live our lives in a car mag, so as long as the driver loves it, that's what matters...

they made the new Z4 into an SLK like sports touring car.. not a real sports car anymore so i'm not surprised the reviews all tend to be that - heavy, soft, expensive, etc.. doesn't it sound just like a Merc SLK?

saw it in person a couple of times, love the new look (wayyy better lookin inside and out than the last gen Z4, which was seriously blah..)

now, when is BMW going to make a "REAL" sports car again?

I just priced one out with the options I would want (if I was ever crazy enough to get rid of my 3), and it ended up being a whopping $67,345... And that's before you add 19" wheels and the CWP. Seems absurdly high for a 2 seater vert. I might pay that for a higher end Porsche Boxster S but for a Z4? No TY...

In my opinion they aren't that good looking anyway... And for that matter I'd look into an M3 before I even thought about getting a Z4.
