frm to frm3

Hi everyone

my car is e92 335i coupe. What's the correct step for changeing frm to frm3 without losing any function like folding mirror by key fob/current welcome light etc?

I searched many place seems like people use different ways from frm to frm3.

is frm connector same as frm3? no need to mod any plug or pin?

can I just swap them and do the following step?

1. Open NCSEXPERT
2. File > Load profile > Select Expertmode > Click OK
3. Press F1 (VIN/ZCS/FA)
4. Press F3 (CS/FA f. EC) > Select E89 > Click OK > Select CAS > Click OK
5. Press F6 (Back)
6. Change job to SG_Codiren
7. Execute job

Thanks.

After you flash and code the frm3 with expert mode you will need to manually restore all of your previous options by editing the values in the .trc file using a profile that allows manipulation. Not sure about the connectors.

same problem on e87

i got the same problem on my 2006 1 series 116i..

All rear lights work with the frm1 unit but i can't get my left and right brake light to work with the frm3 unit.. the brake light in the middle at the tailgate works.

What can this be??

I know a few others have the exact same problem when they try to change from pre facelift cars from frm1 to frm3...

Easy, problem is that you should go frm1 to frm2 and not frm3 since frm3 is only with LCI models thats why you keep getting errors.

You have two way to get this work :

1. Rewiring
2. Recoding brake lights and parking lights using ansterung functions

Interesting, could you explain how to do this, step-by-step?

I swapped a frm2(xenon) to a frm3 (max brose) to have lci front and rear + ahl.

Now, the right AE is dead, but the inner trunk led bars dim when xenons are lit.

Any help much apreciated!

This looks promising!

Can you please explaint this a little more detailed on how to do it?
That would be awesome and really helpful!
I know many people have this problem and it's really frustrating when i got a fully working FRM3 that i really want to install

How and what to rewire? and how to recod brake and parking lights using ansterung functions?

With the FRM3 module the angel eyes do not work anymore. ( I did not do a taillight upgrade, I just upgraded the frm)
bi-xenon started working (I did not have that before...)
with the rear lights the top half does not work. the bottom half does work.
I have option 0522 and 0566
the module has partnumber 61359249086.

is this a coding issue or a wiring issue?

is there a MAN file available for this car/module?
thanks for the info so far.

How can i get my FRM3 module to work with my preface 2006 BMW E87

It originally came with FRM1.

My brake lights wont work with the FRM3 no matter what i try
I get two errors in my dash saying that right and left brake ligth are defective.. the middle one works just like it should.
The rear fog lights lights is also constantly lit up, i think that is to replace the brake lights in case of failure since they dont work!

When i swapped the FRM's i used WINKFP to write my VIN number to the FRM3 module, then i wrote the CAS FA over to the FRM3 FA and then coded it to my car using NCS EXPERT.

What can this be?? Why doesent it work??

Did you code frm to default? Using expert profile?

Yes, i did code the frm to default usin expert profile and all the other profiles too since it wouldnt work

I also did try to reset the frm.

I saw in the link you sent, that the pins form pre lci to lci was different?
Could the pins be wrong??

Yes!!! That worked just perfectly

Changed:
From pin 14 in X14260 to pin 16 in X14260
From pin 41 in X14261 to pin 18 in X14260

Now i have FRM3 on my pre-facelift 1 series E87 working perfect

Guide:
For alle those people that have a pre-facelift E87 with FRM1 that wants to change to the FRM2 or FRM3 unit, they have to change some pins in the FRM light connectors to make all lights work after upgrade!

All lights will work except the right and left brake lights because the pin assignments in the connectors are different for the brake lights between FRM1 and FRM2/3!

For cars without xenon you have to change: (Also for cars with xenon)
1. Grey/Yellow wire from Pin 41 in the X14261 connector to Pin 18 in the X14260 connector which is the brake signal wire for the right brakelight.
2. Grey/Violet wire from Pin 14 in the X14260 connector to Pin 16 in the X14260 connector which is the brake signal wire for the left brakelight.

Cars with FRM1 uses a combined Brake/Parklight so after changing these pins, the brake light will be dimmed when not braking and will light up when braking just like it should. If you like me, have changed to the facelift LED taillights, you have to code the FRM2 / FRM 3 unit to disable the rear parklights, cause the LED stripes are already the park lights, so if you dont code the unit, you will have both the LEDs and the dimmed brake light lit as park lights

For cars with xenon and HIGH LED taillights you have to change:
1. Grey/Yellow wire from Pin 41 in the X14261 to Pin 9 in the X14261 connector which is the brake signal wire for the right brakelight.
2. Grey/Violet wire from Pin 14 in the X14260 to Pin 43 in the X14261 connector which is the brake signal wire for the left brakelight.

Optional for proper HIGH LED taillight retrofit to power the LED lights (only works for cars with xenon FRM unit):
3. A wire from Pin 16 in the X14260 connector to Pin 4 in the left taillight connector.
4. A Wire from pin 18 in the 14260 connector to Pin 4 in the right taillight connector.

Congratz! You now have a have pre-facelift 1 series E87 working perfectly with FRM2 or FRM3 unit with or without xenon!
Best regards Bjørne Øen
