NJMP Lightning: Looking for some critique

As the title says. Looking for some critique. Not one of my best laps for the best lap I had that day. 100 degrees+ weather. My head was boiling but nevertheless, I couldn't get an instructor so anyone who can help point out some things, please do.

We can talk on Wednesday about the lap.
It's hard to see where you're putting your wheels in regards to the curbing due to the lack of visibility with the camera.
Based on that we can discuss we will go from there. The lap looked really good IMHO.

BTW: Do you have an external anatenna for the Harry's Lap Timer?

What TSM330i said, can't tell from the camera view where your car is so I don't know if you're hitting the apex in most places.

Comments:
- you're losing time from the left hander all the way to the main straight. If you stay wide after the left turn (instead of hugging left) you can treat that as a straight and pick up lots of speed.
- You can take the lightbulb much faster than that, finding the limit is up to you
- Experiment treating turn 2 as a throw-away, instead of hitting the apex go wide/draw a wide arc and accelerate all the way to turn 3.

HTH!

1. I see what you mean there. I'll try that next time.

2. I know I can take lightbulb faster. At the end of lightbulb there's a bit of rough pavement that I'm scared of it upsetting the car while going 100+. Is this a illegitimate concern or is it alright there?

3. I will try that line out.

Yep, legitimate concern. That bump/transition is exactly the spot where I get all the traction-related limp modes. You should be fine as long as you keep the wheel straight and if you need to correct, it needs to be done very gently due to the speed you carry. The "carnage" pic that Dubbedown posted recently was from someone over-correcting right at that spot.

hey, my comments may not necessarily be correct, but I'll just bring them up for your/everyone's review:

T2) I stay about a car width wide from apex in order to initiate a large arc for T2 & T3 together.

T3) By the time I reach the turn in cone at T3, I'm already all the way outside, being parallel to the track, if not already turned in slightly. What I ultimately do here is similar to the Octopus at Thunderbolt; keep the steering angle same, and trail braking just a little bit at T3 turn in, so that the turning radius can decrease slightly and hug the inside curbing throughout T3 exit.

T4) Same as you. I exit this turn and track out as necessary, but as soon as I'm done tracking out enough, I immediately slingshot back to the outside of T5.

T5) Rather than pointing toward the turn in cone, I do the same thing as T2-T3 stuff here; all the way outside being parallel with track by the time I get to T5 turn in cone. Then right about where the cone is, the track slopes up quite a bit. I take advantage of this slope, and do a little late (trail) braking here, so that my car has turned enough to point straight for the top of the hill apex cone. I try to almost hit this cone.

T6) If I stay tight at T5 apex, I don't have to completely track out at T6. In fact, I stay completely to the right side until T7 comes.

T8) Many people do different things here: some stay out 3/4 until apex cone; some double apex, etc. I disregard the turn in cone. I do some braking before, but I kinda double apex by turning in tight and a little hot, so that understeer can carry me to the top/outside of the bank as I slow down (not by braking, but by understeering), and then when I get slow enough I start to see the cone and slowly creep toward it. Then hit the apex cone there and track out for the straight as you did.

Sorry for the long post. Just wanted to share and compare

Thanks guys. I'll make sure to take your comments into consideration on my next lightning venture on August 24-26.

Meanwhile... I just finished a day at Thunderbolt and it was a lot of fun. Only thing was... I cooked my Hankook RS-3's within 15 mins of the first dry session and they gave up within the first 5 mins of the third session, resulting in me going off on the Octopus.

Video here: Critiques welcome! This was the first session that it wasn't raining so I was still hesitant to go on the curbing.

nice exit. Better to go off there the way you did than try to save it and spin back in.
