MGP Caliper Covers?
Greetings...
Anyone have any experience with MGP Caliper Covers? I know the quality/fitment has been upgraded from some of the lesser covers of years past, but I'm still not sure about them. I've used G2 Caliper paint on my previous 330i and was happy with the outcome, but if the MGP product is worthwhile then it's definitely seems like an easier install. Here's the info listed on MGP's site, along with a photo: • MGP Caliper Covers are laser cut from 6061-T6 aerospace aluminum. • Bridge union is TIG welded for strength. • Graphics applied using proprietary CNC high speed engraving techniques. • Hydraulically formed to fit OEM brake caliper configuration. • Patented stainless steel fastening system is secured with locking nut. • High quality powder coated finish for all-weather toughness and durability.

I'd recommend not covering your calipers. It's a needless addition of expense, weight and, most of all, insulation. Let the air flow over those things unrestricted! If you want to change the look, paint them. A caliper cover is pretty poser...kind of like a kit-car.

Carve–thanks for the input...that was my thinking as well but was curious about popular opinion.
JayKay335i–what's up with "please sell your car"? Care to elaborate?

Klove83—stop being a dick on the forum. I was just asking a question about a product...nothing more. You must have too much time on your hands...

Your naming off the qualities about the product and the they look ridiculous with the fake sticker bolts.
JayKay335i's told you to sell your car because it will be a sad day to see these on a bmw. Like I said we dont need someone selling BS on the forums.

It's called "copy and paste"...taken from their website. Did you not read my post which actually had a question in it? Tools like you remind me why I never visited these sites, despite being a BMW enthusiast for years. Like they say, one bad apple ruins the bunch...

Its a crap product that looks like crap and serves no function but will also decrease the air flow to your breaks and probably lead to increased wear. The fact that you are even looking at products like this is disconcerting.

Go with Paint!
S&T335, Don't waste your money, they really don't do your BMW the justice it deserves. Clean up your calipers, and paint them silver, gray, or black seems to be the best options. You also might want to clean the rust off the inner hub of the rotors and paint them as well. I did this the 1st week I had my car, as I could see a little rust already starting on the rotors. I went with the silver hammered look paint by Rust-Oleum.

I'm not sure I'd go with them... but I can tell you I saw them in person on an M6 and surprising looked quite nice. It was a white M6 with the red MGP caliper covers and it looked clean; not at all what I expected. The gentlemen said it minimizes brake dust as well. Who knows if he was just talking them up or not? It comes down to personal opinion though... Good luck.

I've had these on my e91 320D for just under a year, not bad bit of kit was very sceptical when first ordered but. You will be surprised they actually look ok. A lot of people have stopped and asked about them as they like the look of them. With regards to brake dust if have to disagree they do not stop it. Lol
These are now up for sale tho as just traded the car in. If anyone want a a bargain in the uk. Save on the importation charges. |

Lol yeah I have to agree with the others, don't get them. I was looking into them a year ago but decided against it. I painted my calipers black a month ago and love it! That's what you should do.

I've been looking at these for a while and frankly I don't see the big deal. Whether someone thinks they're "poser" or not just seems juvenile to me, so who cares? I would agree that the fake bolts do look stupid though and do wonder if MGP would do a logo only. I've looked at a few BMW's that installed these and tbh they didn't look too bad at all. For me, I just don't have the time or the tools to pull my calipers, clean them up, paint them, and then reinstall. All for something which longevity is at best, questionable. To each his own, you know.

Take the rattle clips off and paint them separately. Putting covers on probably takes about as much time as paint. You may not be a poser, but caliper covers make you look like one. |
