They have the right to make a little note on your service record that they saw the chip. they probably won't, but they can nonetheless. Just take it out to avoid a huge potential headache...

If you don't have anything positive to say then don't say anything at all. I guess it is better that I take it out.

I see the idea of fraud is still taken very lightly around these parts.

What happened to, "Ya gotta pay to play"?

Well actually I am a pretty moral person, and if I knew that my chip caused a problem in my engine, then I would not mind paying for it believe it or not. The thing is that the dealerships abuse their customers and might blame the chip for things not even closely related to it. So to respond to you, If you like to be taken advantage of, then I can't do anything to stop it, but I am going to do everything I can to stop the dealership from ripping me off, especially when they treat me like crap like they always do. I can't stand people who honestly believe that BMW is trying to look out for them, LMAO, they will do ANYTHING in order to make a profit from you, ITS THAT SIMPLE, THEY ARE A NON FOR PROFIT BUSINESS.

If you are a moral person then the answer to your question is clear - keep it in.

Removing it is deceptive.

I believe you are confusing BMW and your dealership, they are two separate entities.

Better safe than sorry.
You'll feel much better about it when you take your car in.

It's really not worth the chance of them finding something.
Just make sure you put the hoses back on the solenoids.

NO it is not clear because If my radio or my xenon lights or even my 335i badge ever falls out of my car, then I know for sure that the dealer is going to blame my chip for it. I think you should reconsider your sides here, I am very happy to see moral people like you, I am not trying to start a fight, but after my experience with dealers, I know even if I tried, I could not be as deceptive as they are with me.

Or your fuel pump which is a known problem, they'll blame it on your piggy. Take it out.

+1:

It's a moral issue if, however, you know the part failed because of the piggyback and not because of a defect.

It takes 30 minutes to take it out. Less if you have power tools.

Why wouldn't you?

I am not trying to start a fight either but these (recurring) questions drive me absolutely crazy. To my mind they are on the order of, "Should I cheat on my taxes?" You can rationalize taking it out all you want but because someone may screw you at some time in the future is no justification for deceiving them now.

What's with the holier-than-thou approach? Think the dealership wouldn't screw you given the chance?
