@OP: that is some serious coin. are you leasing this car? if not, you may want to explore importing from the US using an importer (like lpauto.ca) and save a bundle. since the F25 is built in the US, it's NOT subject to 6.1% duty.

Make sense???

In Europe they drop the 28i and offer a diesel (20d) version instead
I thought it was an N54.

The specs at BMW's website say twin turbo but a vehicle review I read recently says N55. I'd believe the BMW website to be the correct one... meaning it should be a N54.

I currently have a 28i in my family... I drive it occasionally... it rides like a dream. Absolutely no complaints with the car except the throttle (as Autoblog also criticized as well)... when you only put in a little throttle, the car hardly responds and I always find myself putting my foot down after maneuvers such as right turns, etc.

62k seems a bit much... mine came with all the options except tech pkg and they wanted about 60ish for it after-tax... I got them down to 57k. Good luck with your purchase!

Ideally this is competing with the Merc GLK350. To be honest with you, the MERC is a nice vehicle for the price. Cant really go wrong with it. Driving dynamics and looks are all relative to the driver.

at the price point of the X3 its a tough buy for me. Even the X1 is expensive.

Two years ago, I test drove the GLK350 first then test drove the Q5 after and my feedback is GLK. I took both SUV to 407 and gun it...GLK immediately car smell burning oil, I was expect a bit but to the point that I couldn't stand it. The Q5 was much better, the smell was very minimal. Therefor I decided to go for the Q5.

I agree with buying in US strategy.

www.carsdirect.com shows that the vehicle, fully loaded (with EVERY package including the M pkg) is USD 50,245. Take off $1000 from that (it's Carsdirect's overhead) and that's the final dealer price for this vehicle.

So $49,200 plus 13% HST tax = 55,600 ....... you come out $6000 ahead.

Wife and I are actually leaning towards the Q7 as our second car.... Much better priced than BMW equivalent.

.....and its more fun to drive and has similar amount of cargo space. I've never understood the attraction to these little trucks.

Have you considered the MDX? Acura has great deals on them right now. If you pay cash you get about $10k off MSRP (plus taxes). Not 100% sure if this deal is still on but it is quite attractive considering the resale value of MDX and you get tons of space.
And they (Acura) run forever..................

Good point...know of an importer that is in the GTA? I know there was a guy lurking on this board - he was from NB or somewhere in the east coast but deals in the GTA...then there is another guy named Will something...cant remember his name...I've heard of other importers registering the car in New Hampshire (No tax in New Hampshire) so when you import you pay your brokerage fees plus HST (for Ontario etc.)

I have a 2011 X3 35i and like it very much. I do agree the X5 D look very nice. Bigger, more luxury, and with the fat tires it looks sporty. My other choices would be the MDX and Q5. The Nissans perform well but I hear they are more thirsty.

like everyone here says, 63k is too much for that car imho. yes, thats what they're going for, and bmw is higher priced than other jap cars, but i seriously think its overpriced...maybe wait a yr or 2 after the bulk of the depreciation hits?
i opted for the rdx since the mdx was out of my price range, and i love it. rear legroom is amazing, drives great, and is fully loaded with the tech package. i bought it 1 year preowned mint condition with 12k and paid 36k for it.

That's a good price! Some folks say not to bother with a RDX or Murano and go for a MDX but like yourself the MDX is out of my price range as well...I am thinking of going pre-owned...just still not sure what to get...

I have a 330i e90 sedan and for a period had an SUV for winters....shopped around, and wanted a true SUV (larger than a Sedan) so the X5, Lexus GX, Merc ML (Deisel), Acura MDX all were considered. X5 drove well, but felt 'heavier' than the MDX. The MDX was a dream...only $70 CAD for an oil change on a 3.7litre...fast, great sound, reliable, inexpense and low maintenance for what it is.

When I decided to give it up, even while there were 8k deals on buying new I had offers to either cover the buyout or do a lease transfer....I had black on black which was a nice combo though.

We looked at a CPO 2009 X5 and from an operating cost (fuel, insurance) point of view it made more sense to go with the X3 since it was priced pretty close to the same (within $1K). In addition, more interest was shown in my trade-in once we decided to go with X3.
Did you compare fuel cost of the 35D?

If I were to get an X5 it would be the 35D. I had that as a loaner for a day and loved the power and low fuel consumption.

I would consider the MDX but maybe in the future...right now I just need something a little more practical...I love my E90 but I hate throwing things in the back seat....I already damaged my front passenger door interior (lower bottom side of the door) and when I return the car I expect to be dinged majorly for it...right now its between the X3, GLK 350, Q5...but I am also considering tightening up the belt and going for a RDX, Murano, or an EDGE. Yes I know the Ford EDGE is North American, but the car looks good and they have great deals on it sometimes. Also, reviews are positive and Ford's quality has gone up to contrary belief....
