Probably it's because you are trying to enhance what people think of your car, and hence you, the driver. Realistically, you are sending a not so subtle signal out that you are a bit of a cock. You've probably gone to the trouble of hunting one down on ebay, or even had the front to go to the BMW parts desk and buy one.

When I see an extra M badge, I therefore make the assumption that said driver is a bit of a cock.

Just my opinion mind, so no one should get too offended.
That logic could be extended to anyone debadging their car, particularly if it's a 4 pot, becasue you want people to assume it's a little more "special". What about all the other modding, twin exhausts etc - each to their own!

Not really, its the opposite, you're removing a factory badge and doing something that is available as free option at purchase.

It's all in the detail!

Why is this a discussion.

If you add a badge, the hand you add it with should be cut off with a blunt machette.

It's quite simple really - if it didn't come from the factory with one, don't add one.

And at the end of the day, who are you trying to impress. Most people will have no idea what an M badge is, so is lost on them anyway; likewise R, S, RS, GTI. Those who are in the know, will know that it's meaningless, so pointless again and as we have read here, attracts ridicule...

Mine is debadged and you don't really get a much more special 3 series apart from the gts, a true car enthusiast would be able to tell by the exhaust anyway.

My point is that the reason many people (but not all ) debadge is to hide the model version, lets face it people have been swapping, adding & removing car badges for as long as I've been driving, which is over 40 years. Personally, I'd rather have an M3 that looks like an 320 than a 320 that looks like an M3, but it's all a matter of personal taste

Mine is debadged too, that's the way it came but if it hadn't I would've debadged it myself, as I did my last car - my reason, I just don't like badges of any description

I think most people would rather have an M3 that looks like a 320 rather than the other way round

I'm all for the sleeper stealth look. Doesn't attract the wrong kind of attention, and can be quite interesting when you have more of a car performance-wise than the looks would suggest.

Good point yes. I had a VW mk5 R32 in black and it did not look that much different to my wife's VW mk5 GT Sport also in black.

Obviously a car enthusiast would tell the difference but I had to point them out to my wife and daughter.
