"No Warning Tones" Pops Up When Starting Car

Guys I'm having an issue with my electronics, about 80% of the time when I start my car (especially if it's been started perviously in the past 2 hours) I get a warning on my idrive dash that says: "no warning tones" I don't have any sound coming out of my speakers. Meaning music or other tones (seat belt, low gas, ex)

Has anyone encountered this problem? I did some research and reset the battery, replaced the combox and checked some fuses but nothing seems to be working.

I'm going to try and recharge the battery later today and see if that helps but I'm not holding my breath.

I saw a few people mention it may be the amp, but that's a $2,000 expense and I'd much rather not fork that over to the dealer if that's not the cause of the problem.

You can get the amps used here at the buy and sell board on or on ebay .
But you didn't say the year of your car or which of the three sound(this isn't the Mercedes Board)
systems it has. The sound systems are not defined by the head unit.

Check for water on the amp first thing.

You can also send the L7 amps in for repair.
Hi Fi amp you might as well go aftermarket but
they are being sold for between 100 to 300 buck on ebay.

used l7 amps usually cost 4 to 5 hundred and for the most part
are plug and play though some have reported getting amps that need
software updates to work with there car.

Also if your combox was working and you changed it I would put the old one back as it has the programming for your car. These are not plug and play items. (they have to be programmed to your car unless you were lucky enough to get one from a car with the exact same options)

If you have money to spend it might be time to consider and aftermarket speaker and amp/dsp

Sorry the car is a 2011 335is (so hifi correct?) After installing the new combox the sound system worked flawlessly all day yesterday. So I'm going to hold off on installing the old combox again until I can do some more trouble shooting.

Should I start to look for another amp even if I don't see water damage?

How can you tell if your combox is working without sound?

I would poke around in the amp area see if the fan is turning
check fuses. You need to positively identify your system you
could have got any of the three system in that year in the US.
Base system with no amp was issued from 2010 to 2011.5 build.
I don't know if the L7 was standard issue for the 335is or not.

I swapped the new com in yesterday morning and my bluetooth, music and tones all worked perfectly all day. As I stated the issue comes and goes, it doesn't happen every time I get in the car which leads by to believe it is not a blown fuse

My car has every option but I'll look into it some more and double check to make sure I have L7

edit: I definitely have L7.... I have a center speaker...hifi doesnt

It could be you are right about a low battery and the IBS(Read about IBS in the first electrical pdf.
is kicking in and turning off which ever accessorizes it deems
necessary to preserve what little battery is left.
But first did you check for water in the amp area.

You could try putting a full slow charge on the battery to see if things improve.
You could try measuring the battery voltage
in the morning before the first start.
6 years is about the maximum life on the battery
in one of these.
The charging points are under the hood.

What would the signs of water damage around the amp look like?

I'm going to borrow a friends battery tender tomorrow and see if adding some juice helps the problem before I go out and get a new battery if there are no signs of damage on the amp.

I was getting this after I did my idrive/combox retrofit.. check your optical cables and make sure there isnt anything loose, and if that doesnt work try updating the amp via coding
