Y-Cable broke again - best options?

Hey guys,

I'm sure this topic has been addressed and I apologize, but I'm just looking for the easy answer. I have a 2008 335xi with BT for telephone AND iPOD integration, which was working nicely for about a year with my iPhone6. The cable is broken - as had been the case before I got the iPhone 6 and new cable - and i've got to (1) replace the Y cable or (2) switch to a BT device that hooks into the USB and audio adapter in the arm rest.

I'd prefer option (2) if it works well and allows you to switch between phone and music easily.

Can anyone tell me what the best options for (1) and (2) are and whether streaming music via (2) will work as seamlessly as it had before the y-cable broke?

Ohh, yes, i'm pretty sure it's actually the cable because when I wiggle it music plays on both sides for a moment and then it's back to only driver side...

Thanks for the help!

I would look into the ViseeO Tune2Air:

Not sure if I'm allowed to post Amazon links but we'll see I guess.

Yup Viseeo works well for me, I got tired of replacing my Y cables too.

They fray very easily if the phone is kept outside the armrest, and the cable gets pinched.

One of the useful things about a ComBox retrofit was the use of a simple USB->lightning cable, no Y BS. And BT audio streaming, of course.

I bought this one. Install took five minutes or less. I've used it 3 times for about twenty minutes each. One time, the BT was cutting in and out, but I think that may have been related to my wife's car connecting to my phone. I'll try to use it more over the next week and report back..

I've noticed that the Tune2Air unit continues to be powered even when the car is turned off (the blue light stays on) in my '08 335i. Have you guys noticed something similar? Will this ultimately drain the battery or is there no risk in keeping it plugged in all the time?

I looked at this issue recently. It seems to me that when I lock the car using the door handle, all power items are really off. I looked for the blinking blue light after locking the car and didn't see it, but haven't checked again...

Check your car after its locked for 30 min or so and see whether the Bluetooth unit is still on.

Still curious about this today, I tested as follows: First, I unlocked my car and watched my phone as it connected via bluetooth. The bluetooth light on the Tune2Air went from blinking to solid blue. Then, I took the phone out of the car and locked the car. About 60 second later, the solid blue (connected indicator on Tune2Air) went out completely. Similarly, the bluetooth connection on my phone no longer listed Tune2Air as connected. No flashing blue or blinking blue lights. I'm satisfied that after 1 minute or so, Tune2Air isn't drawing power...... Hope this helps.
