My VRSF downpipes + ETS cat back exhaust review (with VIDEO)
UPDATE: video added
I wanted to share my experience with these parts so here's my review: I got my VRSF downpipes and and ETS exhaust delivered to me last week and I got them installed immediately! I even left work early that day (because I can!) to do it. I drive an e90 LCI and the install went pretty well. The downpipes installed perfectly. There were some reports of the bolts for the VRSF downpipes being of inferior quality and some recommended to upgrade these bolts and nuts but I didn't find anything wrong with them and I just didn't think it was necessary so don't worry about that. Fitment was spot on. The quality seemed top notch to me so I'm glad I saved some bucks and did not go with other brands. Now the install for ETS exhaust was another story. I decided on this cat back because I wanted the x-pipe and I've read reviews that this is one of the less loud sounding exhausts. During the install I was informed that the two straight pipes that was sent to me was identical! I later found out that they are suppose to be two different pipes. The shop had to cut that pipe and weld it back into the proper alignment (tip - bring it to a shop that knows wtf they r doing). Besides that, everything else was pretty good. The rest of the fitment went pretty well. The tips lined up nicely and it does stick out a little further and I thought they had accidentally sent me the coupe version (like I've read somewhere) so I had a little freak out but I found out it was normal due to the LCI bumper. After the install the drive home was INTENSE. I saw the power difference IMMEDIATELY. Turbo lag was gone and the sound was exactly what I was going for. Sound is something really hard to describe, since people perceive it differently and you can't really tell from videos. Like you can make 2 videos of the same exhaust from different mics and cameras and it can sound completely different. I'll try to describe it anyway. It has a nice deep growl at startup. During cruising there's very little to no drone. If there is drone (which I'm not sure there is), I would say it's between 2-3k rpm but I'm not sure if that's just the sound of acceleration lol. Or it might be the sound of the downpipes but again I don't know! Either way I like it! It's not that much louder than stock, and it doesn't have that pitchyness that many JDM exhausts have. So far, I'm running procede v2.5 with 4-23 maps and also have DCI and I just installed the ETS intercooler (which is a separate thread). I would definitely recommend this setup! This downpipe and exhaust combo with the procede tune makes the car ridiculously fast. I tried to listen to the sound of the exhaust at WOT but the problem is if I WOT for 4 seconds I'm going like 110mph lol. Anyway, that was my review. Hope you found that helpful. And here are some pictures ...And I know - I need a drop! I'm working on that! I'm probably getting KW V2 coilovers soon and some wheels after that! Last edited by ZanaX; 04-11-2013 at 03:57 AM.. video please. I've been looking at this exhaust for a long time. The V-Band makes installation a breeze, it would seem.
also, is your car a 6mt or 6at? the 6at's have more drone with aftermarket exhausts usually.

So you paid top dollar for an exhaust that you had to cut and weld? Plus they didn't even send you the one for your car?!? I would have been FURIOUS.

Yes they did send me the right one. Just one piece from the whole system wasn't right. And I was a little irritated but it was easily corrected and the end result was pretty freakin good so I'm not going to stress out about something that had already been corrected and everything come out well.

Judging from the vid, it sounds similar to the AE, maybe a little deeper.

The ETS exhaust does sound good.
Best part about ETS is they can custom make the exhaust if you prefer no resonators or more or different style mufflers ETC. They can do anything you want really. |
