I thought one press of DTC just gave a bit more slippage before TC kicks in? i.e traction control is still on but it will let the wheels slip a little more.
You need some slippage of the wheels for good acceleration anyway and the same applies for braking although optimal slip levels are slightly higher. I tend to agree with others than the normal TC is a bit too aggressive to kick in and just makes pulling away worse rather than better. |

I've never had the TC kick in when pulling out of a junction or overtaking. I appreciate the 335 has more horses than a 330 but still.

Wait hold on!...no one is advocating switching traction control off and doing donuts in a tesco car park or drifting near the local primary school. If you do rely on traction control, good for you. But no need to put down others who prefer not to use it. |

So lets have this right. The TC is on all the time. Press DTC once and it gives you extra traction , hold DTC button for three seconds to get the triangle and that turns off TC completely ?

The safest way to drive on public roads is to leave all the safety aids on and then drive as if you did not have any. I come from an age when there was no technology to iron out drivers errors, and possibly I am a safer driver because of that.

How do we learn? develop and grow?
We try, we succed or fail? When we fail, we learn. If this doesnt happen, we dont grow, develop or learn. Learning to drive properly is a pleasure and skill. Having a 335d/i thats fast is not a skill in itself, nor is it skillful booting it and waiting for the TC to save your ass, people become dependant on it and lose that fundermental driver skill. Most learnt to drive in cars with no TC, are we all dead now? |

Driving a car is a little bit like walking a tightrope. It takes time to learn, requires skill and practice, mistakes can have fatal consequences and its a lot safer with a few special aids...a safety net for example. I take your point that learning often involves pushing the limits.....but 'failing' to keep a car going in the right direction on the correct side of a public road is not a lesson anyone can afford to have. With respect Alex, on public roads we try, we succeed or fail......and when we fail, we learn, or quite possibly die. There's a time and place for the advance driving lessons you're advocating....a public road isn't on that list. |

On a side note driving a 123d without traction control is fun.

Turned it all off on my dad's property just sand and gravel. Felt like I was driving on ice. Was all fun and games until I drifted to close to a wind row. Then it all came back on.

Did you guys see that video on PH, where some chubby piss flap chav was driving a Z4 really fast on public roads in the wet.... traction control light was coming on quite often....
if it wasn't for traction control, he would have crashed. No doubt. |

Thank you :-) I always turn it off then, car feels better to drive.
Nothing more annoying when I'm taking a roundabout at high speed and the brakes apply themselves because of the TC. I control the car, not the other way round :-) |

I dont want to be 'that guy' but i will anyway lol. Below is a picture of me in my other car. I consider myself pretty competant when it comes to car control but i dont bother turning the DTC off, why bother, it kicks in every now and then but i just take it as helping me out. Id rather not get caught out in an expensive car on the public road.
Though maybe thats because mines a 335D so its an auto so power delivery and throttle response feels a little strange to what im used to.... |
