weight of type 161

Anybody know what the type 161 wheels weigh? How about the type 156? I've searched all over to no avail.

Thanks. I'm surprised that this information isn't available from bmw. I asked and was told that bmw doesn't publish the wheel weights.

I know they are heavy. I got a set of SSR 17x8.5 all around, and my MPG AVG jump from 24.6 to 27.3.

Using a bathroom scale I get the following; stock front style 161 with a Stone runflat weight is 64 lbs and the rear weight is 67 lbs.
If that's accurate, that's pretty damn heavy.

I saw that. I find it hard to believe. I really like the 161s the best of all the oem wheels. But before I spring for a set, I have to find out how much they weigh.

That's pretty heavy.

I weighed my 162s with the RFTs and compared them with the taller and wider aftermarket ones. Here's what I got:

STOCK LF = 55.2 lbs vs 52.8 lbs WORK LF
STOCK RF = 56.6 lbs vs 51.8 lbs WORK RF

STOCK LR = 58.2 lbs vs 56.6 lbs WORK LR
STOCK RR = 58.4 lbs vs 56.6 lbs WORK RR

I just sold my 161s and weighed them before I moved them out of my house. I weighed the wheels and tires (the tires it came with when new, Bridgestone RE050A II RFT tires with 2200 miles on them) without the lug nuts, each front wheel & tire (225/45VR17) weighs 60.5 pounds, each rear wheel & tire (255/40VR17) weighs 62.0 pounds, weighed each wheel & tire 3 times and got same read outs on my digital bathroom scale. That's pretty heavy.

Wow that is really heavy. If you subtract the tire weight (from tirerack specs), these wheels are 30+ pounds each. Too heavy for me. Thanks for weighing the wheels.

That's about right, I actually got around 64lbs for the 161 rear wheels with tires, compare to my RGR at 49 with tires (even thought it is 19x10)

Unfortunately, that is what mine weigh too (with stock RFT). Heavy wheels, and heavy tires (as I recall, the RFTs are spec'ed at 30 lbs).

I lose 20lbs per corner just putting my run of the mill winter shoes on. With the stock wheels, the car feels like it has a live rear axle. Might as well with all of that unsprung rotational mass.

i got them too for that I needed a lot of sidewall for bad roads so 17s was only realistic choice, and 161s looked perfect. Sadly after driving on them for 2 seasons i gotta say they are very heavy for how they plump into the potholes. not happy about that. I heard reps are lighter!! they do look good though.

edit: damn, old thread! )
