Is it worth trading for?

I can't help but get tempted by other cars at the moment. I have had my 57 plate 335i from new and am considering part exing it for something else. My car is still low mileage (13k) and runs really well - but I can't help looking.

I am finding myself tempted by a 135i coupe. I know it is basically a bit smaller version of what I already have, but I can't help but imagine what the N54 engine would be like in a smaller, more nimble package (particularly tuned up to 400bhp +).

I have found a 135i available with a load of BMW performance parts, which make it a great looker. The 135i is manual and without nav, the same as my 335i - this has proven a problem in trying to part ex with dealers on my 3er, would it be such a problem in the future when wanting to part ex the 135i?

The 135i has done 4k miles and is a year newer than mine. So the question is, would you chop this in

for this

?

I am thinking that if I can get the deal to about 4k to trade, I might go for it.

Thoughts please.

I would say the E92 is a far nicer looking car than the E82.

What do you think the 1er will give you that the 3er doesn't?

Got to agree with everyone else, don't do it.

E92 has probably the best lines of the current range and I would say 1 ser coupe is one of the worst. Rear is all wrong, too short, almost to the point where it looks like it has been in an accident.

The only car I would change E92 for would be an Audi A5.

All thoughts on looks are very subjective though.

No way.

The 1 coupe is certainly better looking that the breadvan version but it still looks like a toy. The 3 series coupe is such a good looking car. And the performance isn't going to be that different - is it?

Check the kerb weights - there isn't that much in it at all. The 135i is smaller but still a heavy car. Perhaps a different polar moment of inertia and shorter wheel base ... but is it worth 4k to you. Key question : have you driven one ?

Don't forget the trim level and quality is also a step down in a 1 series. (same as a 5 is a step up).

Harder plastics and everything just a bit more flimsy and cramped.

Stick with the 3er. defo.

If the driving experience is important to you, as it was for me than looks, I can only say I love my 135i and you swapping from the E92 would give you a more involving drive.

The 1er is more chuckable, has better brakes, better steering feedback and slightly better performance.

It has less rear leg room, so if lugging passengers is important, might be a problem

I notice the one you're looking at has some nice upgrades, Performance exhaust £600, performance wheels, not sure but about £1200, short shifter £350.00 if it's the whole kit and not just the gear knob

Mine had Nav, which is very nice, but I wouldn't pay extra for it and in a 1 series probably not as expected as in a top end E92

Go and drive it, you won't be disappointed.

No everywhere isn't, admittedly a couple of areas are, but on the whole it's the same, dash quality, switch gear, seats, door cards, are no less quality.

I thought about a similar change - 135i's are great value and crazy fast when remapped.

They handle brilliantly, better than the E9X

However, downsides (all IMO);

- poorer quality interior
- very poor rear legroom
- not as attractive as a E92

Still good cars though
