Dreaded Airbag recall light

Damn, my car came up with the dreaded airbag light , I have to call BMW and see what they tell me if this falls under their airbag recall , I have a 2006 325xi sedan at a little over 100k.
Feel free to post comments if anyone has had this issue after warranty and if it was fixed by BMW under the recall list.

You should be able to check your VIN at www.bmwusa.com/recall

Aside from a recall, there may be a special extended warranty. BMW does that quite frequently for common problems. If it's a special warranty, it won't be on the recall list. You'll have to dig around and find the SIB that explains the warranty eligibility, or ask your dealer. But the dealer may tell you they have to diagnose it first before they will know if it falls under a special warranty.

I know they've had extended warranty on airbag components for some models, but I'm not sure if they did on yours.

x2, IIRC fix at a dealer was around $700.

Scanning for codes will tell you what it its. The recall is not for an actual malfunction, but for a dangerous shrapnel resulting from being fired.

There was a recall for the passenger mat sensor on some models. On others it was just an extended warranty.

Damn, on my 2011 it was neither. Didn't know there was a recall on the earlier models.

If it's under an extended warranty rather than recall, you may be able to see it by entering VIN in http://www.bmw-rp.com/production/isg...bmw_portal.nsf

Not sure about the E90, but our X3 had both a recall and an extended warranty. Of course our problem with the sensor didn't fall under either because it wasn't giving the required code (no warning lights, but the "airbag off" light would be on when normal adults were in the seat).

The strangest thing was when I took it to the dealer, they checked it out, and the service advisor came out and said, "sorry we can't warranty the repair," handed me my keys, and walked away. After standing dumbfounded for a moment I left. He didn't even give me an opportunity to pay for a repair. So I didn't feel like I had any other choice but to drive around with a non-working airbag. But I soon sold the car anyway.

Question

Your right, I found a letter that BMW sent me from 2014 for the "extended warranty" for the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) from "passenger air bag seat occupancy sensor (OC3) mat". Does anyone know if the malfunction indicator is supposed to be the the one that shows up that is warrantied ??

x2.

My E90 has the issue with the passenger mat; steering wheel airbag is fine.

Kodak check the codes - I highly suspect your issue is the passenger mat and not the steering wheel airbag.

That I'm aware of, the steering wheel airbag recall only impacted the E9x that came with the sport steering wheel.

You'll have to pull the codes to know for sure unless you have idrive, but that's the same dash indicated I had IIRC.
