There are more than two grades of audio available in Europe but only the upper two come to the US. Both of those are what I was referring to as "high end". |

There are four levels of audio world-wide. US gets three - our "base" system that is standard on all E9X as of 2009, Logic 7 that is optional only on non-M models, and Enhanced Premium Sound (Individual) that is optional only on M models. In other words, there is only one level below our base system, not two. In Europe and elsewhere, you can get any of the four levels on any (or at least most) E9X. |

Voice Control Update
Hey guys- I'm about to send off three trial "hacks" for the voice control enabling codes for an acquaintance in the UK.
Rumor has it that you can get the enabling code (created per VIN) from BMWNA, from the dealer ("ordered" thru the parts dept.) for US cars, but not for UK cars. I'll post the results when I know... |

You can get the code through a BMW UK dealer too.
If you ask them to look at the Pofessional Navigation Retrofit Install Instructions the part number is in that. |

After reading all the usb retrofit threats I got a bit confused...
I have a 335i m sport touring, build end of 2006 with navi pro, Bluetooth and voice control. My dealer said they have no experience with retrofitting the 6fl usb and that it probably will not work. So can you guys tell me if it is possible for my car?

After 7 pages of reading and many months it is sad that in 2009 we still need to specify a USB port on a very high end car. Not even notebooks are carrying CD readers those days...BMW wake the hell up and make it standard. I did not had the option of ordering the car, plus they have lowered the prices of the 2008 MY on the last week of December and mine came with the CD Changer and no USB, I guess the only viable option will be to use the MOST Ipod Interface, or burn 6 MP3 CD's, how many hours per CD do you get via MP3?

No, it is for transfer of music to the hard drive.

Euro Spec Car. Only have Professional CD (S663A). Build Date 7/2008.
Hey guys, read the entire thread. The reason is because I am researching how to have ipod connected to my car. My dealer promised me that they would throw in a Ipod kit on the car when I was about to buy it. At the time, I had assumed that all ipod in E9x cars are the 6FL type...since my dad's car in Canada had it, and I liked it very much. You had the option to have it connected to the USB to charge, while just the aux cable if you just want it to play. Anyway, I went ahead and ordered the car. Never thought to ask for the 6FL option, as I thought it was a dealer installed item. Car arrived in 5 months! And when I asked for the ipod kit, they said they needed to order a new part, since they tried to install the kit they had in another car, and it did not work properly. I thought this was bull, but I researched in realoem anyway. Turns out there are 2 types of retrofit kit. These are the ones that will have your ipod in your glove box. To me this is my second choice. The 2 part numbers are: 65-41-04-27-467 and 65-41-04-12-881. Anyway, the 467 part is not applicable with my radio and it says the 881 part is the one for the car. Which is exactly consistent with what the dealer said...it works with the business but not the professional. Will have them order the 881 kit for me. But since they are ordering already, I also came across the 6FL Retrofit, which states that it is available for my car. Part number is 65-41-04-45-465. I am hoping that this will be available, as it would be cool to have the USB there. Will call them tomorrow, as it is a sunday today! But just to clarify...in theory the retrofit ipod kit 881/467 part numbers work exactly like the 6FL, except for the fact that 6FL can have USB instead of ipod right? TIA!

They are not EXACTLY alike. The kits have a iPod proprietary connector in the glovebox and does not use USB at all. The menus are different with somewhat less capability. You access the various functions as though you were accessing CD1-4 of the CD Changer.

Any updates from the members who have made some progress with the retrofit?
I have a 2008 M3 with no NAV and it looks like I don't have the MULF2 High box, nor any of the wiring. I check realoem.com and it appears there are part numbers for the wiring harnesses, but they aren't available in the US. I was going to start checking junkyards for any wrecked E9X's with the 6FL option and see if they would sell me the harnesses. My biggest fear is that I'll get all the parts and the dealer won't know how to activate it. Anyone with any info on that part? |

I checked at Peabody as well and passed along the BMW usb retrofit service manual. Heard back that they'd checked with parts and that they were no longer available. Still searching.

My car is at the shop, getting the kit installed. The part # for module 65 41 0 445 465 and cost is $540. CAD. If you car does not have UFL aka High charger/hands-free electronic control unit, there is an additional cost of $500.00 CAD,. Finally labour is 4hrs as per my dealer.
This is an expensive retrofit kit.. I think it is gonna run be around $1500. + taxes.

If you buy the MULF2 Hi from ebay.de (around €125) you can then buy the wiring kit for $150 and install it yourself, you then just need the dealer to code it for you.
Could be 1 hour could be 3 hours, but you should be able to do the lot for between $350-550 depending on coding time. The install is only 2 hours or 2. hours on the retrofit, so it is only the price of the new MULF2 that pushes the price right up. |

I got the 6fl Retrofitted in my car finally and it works flawlessly!! . It took my dealer cpl days but with the help of BMW Germany support, they succeeded. This was the first time for my dealer, next they know what to do. As per dealer, a special program had to be downloaded to get this working.
Funny thing, I spoke to different dealer, prior to my install and they called BMW Canada and as per them, the part was tested and NEVER worked. They had adv the dealer not to install the kit. However, since I read the installation instructions for retrofit kit and had a feeling it should work. I tried a different dealer and got it working. . So for those interested in getting the retrofit kit, here are the details. I needed the following parts to get this working. Retrofit kit No.# 65 41 0 445 465 ULF Module # 84-10-9-207-360 (some cars, may have this). My Apr 07 Production 335i, with Bluetooth, I-Drive and Logic 7 did not have the module. The part themselves cost $1000.00 CAD + Labour. I know it’s a little pricey but I had wanted it since few weeks after I ordered my car (2.5 yrs now) and enjoy’n it now. Good Luck to those interested.
