Cobb AP - euro support inplace - groupbuy?

http://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=622761

Please find the above link.
Cobb is now officially supporting the uk.
This seems like a really nice alternative way of tuning. I won\'t go into it here. Plenty to read on their website and US boards.

I was wondering if anyone else was interested, as I am keen to order and maybe we could get a better price with a group buy.

Let me know!

Prices without groupbuy discount are about 500 quid with no Import tax accounted for.

Extremely interested in this. Around the same gains as JB4? Ease of removal of tuner codes (I'm with warranty)?

I'm looking into it too - I'm about to go either the evolve route or this. It's £500 for the evolve Chrimbo deal, we're talking possibly around £660 once import tax and p&p are included.

The Cobb does have a range of maps and the datalogging/realtime data ability. But evolve and a bt cable might be cheaper, and evolve would be more inclined to customise your map just for you... Hmmm

Have a little read up on the us forum.
Same power as near as makes no difference.
The nice thing is there are different trottle maps, stock and linear.
A range of maps - yes similar to auto tune.
Code reading and clearing.

I think there is no difference between this and JB for warranty issues.
But if anyone knows better I stand to be corrected.

If we can get an Idea for numbers we would be able to get a better idea on price.
I mean its a plastic case and cable. You can label it as you please for import.
500 quid is the personal quote I have for it delivered to london.
So inclusive of postage.

Re Evolve, great reports etc, doubt you would be disappointed with either.
The code reading, macbook interface, multi maps, portable nature (no laptop in car required) what set this apart for me.

I've spent a good hour reading up on it and it looks good, really good and I'm much more comfortable playing with OBD II ports than ECU's. I can't dispute that all the research I've done for JB4 has shown it's an amazing piece of kit but the COBB looks more what I'm after, I just know I'd f@ck up the JB4 install or removal.

Stage 1 with DCI's on COBB looks like your standard 70bhp and 80lb/ft at the fly increase it seems which is where I'll be at until next Summer...then DP's for Stage 2 & FMIC for Stage 2+. I'll be happy with that and it might make my lardy cabrio feel a little more spritely, not that it's slow anyway.

Put me down on the list, it is Christmas after all . Delivered to Surrey, if that makes any difference.

Guys, we have a couple of ETS Intercoolers and both race-cat and kitty-less AR Design Downpipes that support the Cobb Stage 2 Map

Just FYI as it seems to me it wasn't mentioned yet: COBB will receive a set of RB turbos (very similar to the Turbo Dynamics stage 2) very soon (before the end of the year) and will then start developing dedicated maps for these upgraded turbos. Although the normal stage 2 maps also work.

The 93 octane maps are by the way equal to what is sold as 98 RON here in Europe, so no expensive 102 RON fuel needed for these. Dedicated race maps (i.e. for race gas or methanol injection) are also under development.

I was thinking of going with procede but like some of the posters here. i cannot and will not take the chance of installing a piggy.. i will fuck it up and will not be able to diagnose... i love the dummy proof option that Cobb offers... anyone in the same boat?

Hmmm, A few US guys use a piggyback on top off a tune for meth control - might be a map that's just compatible with that?

It appears they are working on a solution for this. I'm not aware of any details in relation thereto but would assume that it would be something similar to the JB4 or PROcede, i.e. a hardware failsafe connected to a flow gauge as well as to the DME in order to switch to a different map or lower boost / ignition advance.

Yeah, a number of our UK customers run the JB4 ontop of a flash. Min you get the flash and JB4 everywhere else.

The question was regards to what Cobb have in the pipe line for failsafe do it knows to save the engine if meth stops.

Because Cobb can't switch maps on the fly it probably won't be as elegant a meth solution as the jb4 or procede being able to switch at need to a non-meth map.
