Is this a cheap way to get a Heads Up Display in our cars?

It seems promising. Anyone know more info? Just seems pretty cool to have your speed on your windscreen along with other things, for this price.

Guide price: £86. Releasing late summer.

Looks great. I'd just love to see the speed of the fast datsun up on the screen. Have it in the X5 and it's very useful.

Sat nav would be a bonus

I'm not sure I'd want that box stuck on the dash & having yet another thing to hide before leaving the car would be a right pita

Reading the article, it's not clear to me whether this is a proper HUD or simply a display reflected off the windscreen. If you just want the later you can get an free Android app which lets your phone's screen reflect in the windscreen to show your speed.

Sometimes I do that with a tablet when I'm driving on highways at night. Plenty of apps for that.

Looking at the unit, I'd rather not bother.

The full report says that you have to apply a special transparent piece of film to the windscreen so it does sound like the real deal.

Might not be great on an e90 as all the dash top is visible. However, on the F series cars it could be good as it could sit invisibly behind the idrive screen.

That wouldn't work

It has to sit exactly in front of the driver. Behind the iDrive would place it at an angle so the reflection would not be visible.

I looked into it 2 years ago.
There were chinese stuff at that time and were around £80-100.

I downloaded iphone application 'Awesome HUD' and used it once.

Never tried it again

I've tried multiple apps on IOS they were very slow keeping up with the speed changes. Could be my phone being two years old and almost full.
I haven't tried the android version yet.

I remember the chinese ones too, think they were called defi-link. I'm surprised the 'sat nav' market didn't jump on this long ago. Its definitely a gap in the market regardless of the issues of having an additional product to hide away.

I used Navier HUD.

You can also set it up to be a heads up sat nav direction display.
