Help with sluggish 1st gear power

Ive always felt my car was missing power in 1st and 2nd gears. The only time my car will spin the tire(s) is turning and hitting the throttle. No wheel spin at all with starting off in manual mode 1st or auto mode in straight line. Also, tried DTC off (3 second hold of button) with yellow triangle on dash lit. Car was tuned @ Mach V Motorsports with evolve tune. I never really felt a power increase after the tune but car was purchased used so dont know if it had previously been tuned. Car dyno @ 290rwhp and 425tq so I know its making more than stock. with a 15% drive train loss dyno should read 225rwhp and 361 if it was stock. Any help in figuring out what going on is appreciated.

What else have you done with the car? Could CBU be a problem? Maybe a boost leak?

Unlikely it was tuned before, but were you noticing this power lack before the tune, right after you bought the car? That is a no-name tune that I doubt anyone here would recommend. BPC and AARodriguez are the good tunes around here since they really specialize in our cars. There could be a whole number of reasons for slugishness. Is it truly a 1st gear issue, or is it an RPM issue?

Car has a wagner IC, red boost hose replaced and Evolve tune. i also have a JBD. When I installed the JBD I do feel it picked up power. but no tire burning in 1st gear.

I purchased the car with 35k miles and it never had the tire burning TQ I read about on these forums. The traction light only really comes on when its wet and I get tire slip. When selecting manual mode and starting off in 1st it just doesnt feel like im getting full power but on the dyno in 5th i'd say its doing fine as 285-295 rwhp on 4 different pulls is higher that stock numbers.

Usually it would make sense as a boost leak or CBU, but those aren't limited to what gear you're in, they're based off RPMs. But just for the sake of being through, check your boost numbers. My only other guess is it's a transmission issue. Very strange. Does the car still take off like a rocket, but it just doesn't slip? If that's the case, you might just have some VERY good rear tires.

Pretty sure there's a torque limiter in 1st and 2nd gear, and that is what you would be feeling. If you have power in 3rd gear or higher, then that would be it.

I wouldn't call it taking off like a rocket but would guess low 5 sec to 60mph. it feels just as fast using auto and taking off in 2nd gear. tires are BARUM BRAVURIS 3HM so nothing special. what do you suggest for checking boost numbers? I dont have a code reader either.

Get a code reader and use the Torque app. You really need a good code reader to own this car. It'll make your life much easier. OBDII to Bluetooth adapters are only about $20. Or you can run to your local autozone or something and ask them to scan. A low 5 second 0 to 60 is pretty good. My stock car does it in just over 6.

I honestly don't think there are any issues with this car. Perhaps what the OP is expecting out of first gear is unrealistic.

well the low 5 sec is just a guess. Car certainly doesn't feel slow. Well i "think" I ran against an Audi Q5 diesel and it was a pretty even race to 60mph He was in front of me at the light and I punched it when he took off fast and the Audi couldnt put any space between us. Not 100% if the Audi was tuned or even full throttle but im assuming it was.

I'm just going of what others on the forum and Evolve have said.
Evolve "Even a bone-stock 335d will easily spin the tires with traction control off."

I'd expect some type of wheel spin with over 425tq going to the rear.

I'm wondering if you've got an issue with that tune. You really shouldn't have problems spinning the tires with DSC off.

I went with a non BPC tune or jr , worst decision of my life now I am finally hopping aboard BPC, we'll worth the money to get a quality tune

Even if it has nothing to do with the tune(which the tune very well could be the issue here), you need to get something more reputable. BPC and AARod both have great tunes for literate and illiterate vehicles, at a reasonable price. No need to go with some no-name tune.

I would hope if you are running a JBD and have a tune that your 0-60 would be quicker than low 5's...

I am stock no tune with a JBD set around 90% my 0-60 was 5.73 and stock was 6.37 if I turn off TC it will spin the wheels no problem.. I haven't really had a chance to go out and try to get my best 0-60... this was stopping on a not busy road while no cars were around

seeing the dyno sheet (American cars) did the tuner know really know imports??

I am not sure Evolve is necessarily a no name tuner, as I have heard of them before, but I am not sure they have experience tuning diesels. The 335d is not even listed on there site and the M3 E90 tune they do offer has only a modest 15HP increase (http://www.evolvetuning.us/bmw/bmw-3...-ecu-tune.html). Sounds like that may be right in line with where you are at HP wise on the dyno. I'd definitely stick with JR or BPC.

you have to go to the euro site..linked below max numbers they give are 240hp/550tq.
http://www.evolveautomotive.com/evol...-e93-335d.html

JR number are 333hp/525tq; 344hp/543tq for the 2.5 upgrade.

My dyno was 291hp and 424tg so with at 15% drive train loss my numbers would be 334hp/500tq. so very close on HP but low on TQ.

That was just the dyno shop the tuner suggested i go to verify issue with power. Im in TX tuner is in VA and he wanted dynojet for run. That shop didnt have specific knowledge for BMW or Diesels but i figure a dyno is a dyno if you input spec correctly. I gave them them 4th and 5th gear ratios as dyno should be done in a 1:1 gear or a close as possible. Also gave them the location to pick up ignition timing for the car. Think it was grey wire with silver label coming off ECU.
