Urgent!I got pulled over by Cop because Dinan Exahust(TEST PASSED! by State Referee)

I was heading to HIN at San Mateo and I got pulled over by a cop

because of i dont have front plate. This is not a problem.

I have Dinan Exhaust and cop was asking me replace to stock. I bought

the car with Dinan exhuast from BMW moutain view.

Cop ask me to make appointment with "STATE REFEREE CERTIFICATION."

They will tell me if its illegal or not. What should I do??

Some other friend told me i can get state legal certification for the exhast

from Dinan.

sucks dude, but I'm pretty sure dinan would not sell their exhaust in your state if it wasn't legal...

Dinan is CARB certified, however there are many exhausts for sale in CA that are not.

Carb Certified or not... Go back to stock for the state ref appointment or you'll be wasting a trip down there.

Good thing you didn,t change the cats. As of this year only a few certified cats are allowed, and only specific places can install them.

Are you saying you haven't altered your cats or you don't have any cats? Clearly no cats won't fly in California. Somebody else posted about being pulled over in California and getting a warning about his exhaust. Glad I don't have to worry about that.

Yes, you'll be fine as long as the car would pass emissions. I just went through a similar process to get my car smogged coming from NJ. Had to put the stock secondary cats back in along with the stock air box to get it to pass.

I lived in the Bay Area for 30 years. I couldn't stand it any longer, had to get the f&&k out. I now live in Nevada where the taxes are low and the people are great. I don't have to worry about smog checks or my front license plate or that my tint is to dark.

He will not be fine in CA if he shows up at the SMOG ref with no CATS! He will not pass the visual inspection which is the main thing they do at the Ref station. So is the Dinan exhaust catless or do you have a Dinan catback exhaust? Most of Dinan's products are 50 state legal meaning they have a CARB cert and number. Any part that has the CARB cert is OK and you do not need to remove it for the SMOG ref. If you removed the cats or changed the downpipes to catless, those parts need to be changed back to stock - same goes for any intake, diverter valves, intercooler etc.

Nevada is very car friendy. RFR is such a great track also and so close! - I wish Nevada would incorporate all of us by Tahoe! I'm in Truckee.

It really depends where you are in California. I'm in a remote area and it is no problem. The poster was on his way to HIN. They always have check stations and CHP on the prowl for modified cars - easy pickens. Any area that has street racing issues is getting the most attention. It is really bad though. I used to be so paranoid every time I took my STI through the valley to the point where I finally stopped driving it down there.

Gosh, I hate to jack this thread, but, I am charter member of the Sierra BMW CCA. We have several members from Truckee that used to belong to the Sac. chapter. We have driving events and car control clinics at RFR. If you are interested contact Jeff Whiteside at Sierra BMW CCA. WE also have a website.
We also have club meetings every second thursday of the month at Bill Pearce BMW.
