Hello,

I've got a guy called Roy from "theshinexsperience" coming to detail my car on Tues,i know some of you on here do some detailing yourselves and would like your input on what to look for as i won't be here untill he's finished

1.Has anybody used "theshinexperience" i think they are based in Surrey.

2.He's down to machine polish the car 3 hrs,and finish off with Swissvax Mystery

3. £300 big ones all in!!

i think 300 notes is alot of money for a clean... if the car was 10 years old oxidized faded and scratched and t was a toss up between repaint of detail then its a different situation all together.. what car do you own?? and is it really that bad?

Is this for real?

£290 for a 200ml tub!

I'll think I'll stick to the Autoglym Aqua Wax, highly recommended at about £12 a bottle.

Regards

Chris

300 sounds a lot for just polish, I presume he is doing a complete detail for that.

I believe the very best detailers charge 75 quid an hour so that would be four hours work for the best of the best.

I would be looking for:

- ask him what he's done, will you be there when he starts? Get him to show you what he is going to do then look for it afterwards.
- complete removal of swirl marks/any etching
- the car should have a mirror like finish.
- Your alloys should be spot free from the front to the backs - he may have to remove them to do this but probably not.
- All glass should be completely spotless
- The tyres should be dressed.
- He should have protected the alloys with some kind of sealant/wax for that sort of money.

Carlos> My car can be driven through rain and puddles and still looks clean (at least from a distance) 2 weeks later and it is black (the hardest colour to keep clean). That's what having a good polish and wax does. The paintwork feels like glass. Also: look at your paintwork in direct sunlight, it should look like a mirror up close. Most cars look like they've been washed with a brillo-pad up close which means they don't look optimum from a distance either.

Hope this helps.

Paul

I'm the same, my car gets used at weekends pretty much exclusively. Being black its a pain in the ass to keep clean. Wanted to clean it this weekend but it just seems to be raining the whole time. Just took a look at your car again, looks awesome...I can see why you'd want to keep it good.

Once this guy's done do you plan to maintain the finish ? You might want to get some products in.

Once he's done that you should just wash it weekly/bi-weekly via the "2 bucket method" and afterwards buff it with some kind of quick detail/field glaze. Then every 6 months the full clay, wax etc. treatment. I've got some metal polish for the exhaust as that seems to get a bit scummy sometimes, and some excellent stuff for the interior, leather and wheel dressing.

I can do a really good job in about 2 hours once every two weeks, which to keep the car looking like I just bought it is ok with me.

9 hrs???? I'd expect 'lifetime' care for the money he will probably charge.

I'll just wait for the next 'bob-a-job' Scout week and give some 10 year old a fiver for washing my motor

Do they have 'Bob-a-job' week any more?

Alternatively, get off your arse and spend the money you would've paid the detailer, buying some of the kit yourself. Reflections like this are easily achieveable...

Matt
Totally agree with Matt here. For about £150 you could have your own Porter Cable and supplies needed to do the job yourself! All you need then is a cloudy day and 4-5 hours to spare.
