Appreciate your consistent help.

Q1: According to an ethanol mix chart posted by Knobi last week in the thread "E85 or Meth", I see that E40 or 40% ethanol can be achieved with roughly 9.5 gallons of pump gas & 6.5 gallons of E85. Are thouse roughly the proprotions you're running?

Q2: I see BMS recommendation for ethanol mix is "for those running E85 fuels up to a 40% mix can be used along with the flex fuel add on connector". I've read Terry gets large supplies of (nearly) pure ethanol to mix in, so I wonder if 40% mix in this context might mean E40 (as opposed to the lower overall ethanol % in your gas tank from 40% of E85 mixed in with 60% of pup gas that contains only 10% ethanol). Assuming I'm correct, you're running the recommended max, right? Did you start lower and work up to that, logging along the way?

I've been told by BMS support to mix 30-50% E85 but to start at 30% and log. Seems relatively consistent although 50% E85 mixed with pump gas equates to roughly 48% ethanol, 8% higher than recommendation. Just trying to sort out confusion over use of ethanol mix.

Q3: Not to beat a dead horse but is 5_3 the latest ISO firmware according to what you see? I checked the n54 tech site and see that 5_3 is the latest listed under BETA, but I also read it's no longer considered BETA and that now the N55 G5 board (like the N54 G5 board) is also shipped with ISO (no diode cutting required and latest firmware already loaded). Will be able to check once everything is hooked up.

Edit: According to N54 Tech, "E Series JB4 ship with 8/17/12 firmware. E Series N55 ISO firmware (latest is 5_3 based on their forum) is experimental and only suggested for experienced enthusiasts."

So I installed jb4 with flex fuel wires and been running map 5 30% e85. Now my question is what firmware do you run when you initially install? And is the only way to run ISO 5.3 via USB? This is on e90 n55xi BTW

Never mind found the answer to my question

Would you mind sharing what you learned? I'm going ISO next week and plan to cut diode and update firmware from current and latest non-ISO (8/17/2012) to latest ISO 5.3, via BMS cable using JB4 application. Does that make sense?

When I got my jb4 I cut the diode before installing it, hooked it up, turned the car to on (without starting it) and updated to 5.3 with all the settings according to the bms thread on n54tech. It all worked without a hiccup.

Cool, that matches exactly with my plan. Thanks dude. Related question regarding BMS Flex Fuel wires, does it matter whether I hook them up before or after updating the firmware to ISO? I'm thinking cut diode, hook up JB4 with FF wires, then update firmware.

I don't think it would matter, but why would you do it in that order? That's like getting half way through a project, starting another project, and then going back to the first. Either way though, you'll be fine.

Doesn't matter. I hooked mine up about a month after installing the jb4. I got them at the same time as the jb4 but just didn't feel like messing with another thing and just wanted to go drive it.

This order does it in one shot, and for the ISO update is the proper order. To update to ISO, you need to cut the diode and update the firmware. But to update the firmware, you first need to hook/power it up (ignition on, not engine on). So what better way to do it one shot than to hook up the FF wires together with the JB4. There is really only one project here: Run JB4 ISO with FF. My apologies if I'm missing your point; I'm still a bit of a JB noob.

Makes sense. I did not get the FF wires at the same time. Just got them and been running non-ISO since I got the JB4.

N55 JB4 ISO Directions here:

http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17800

Note latest firmware is N55_ISO_5_5.hex. I have 5.3. Don't recall seeing 5.4 but 5.5 "Just changes for the 3.5 bar TMAP sensor when using the later interfaces. fp_l is high pressure out to the DME currently." according to Terry.

Go to the link. It's located right after the directions for updating to ISO.

I see the hex file but don't I also need the jb4 interface? Or does it prompt me to a file once I attach it to my car via USB?

http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13189
is your friend.

Contains the JB4 interface for download. Has much more, which I suggest you read including the link to directions on how to connect a laptop to your JB4 to update firmware or log.

Good luck. And keep reading N54 tech.

I was coming here to post some info regarding the ISO firmware, but will just comment in this post.

I did mine 2 nights ago. If anyone has a JB4 on the N55 and has not done this yet, DO IT NOW. I ran the stock firmware for 4-5 months and wish I would have ran this back then.

My car runs 1000x better than before. Smoother and no surging idle, no "ranging" of the exhaust while cruising. Generally better and smoother all around, and possibly an MPG increase, but not 100% certain.

I posted a couple of videos to YouTube prior to the update and will try to get some more up today.

Got guys thanks! Pretty stoked to run this ISO on map 5 because as f now pre ISO map 5 is kind of all over the place as far as power delivery goes. Now if my DP finally gets shipped from VRSF than I'd be one happy man!

Similar story. I've been on pre ISO jb4 w/FF and its been fun but def ready for more power consistency. Also, are you located in Northern Cali??

N54 boards need 2 diodes cut. N55 boards need one. Thank God that's cleared up.
