335D - Things i've noticed in my first few days

Had my e91 335d a few days now and absolutely loving it. Can't wait to get it back home on Tuesday and give it a good tear up on roads i know.

But a few things i've noticed:

a) Why can't you open the boot with the keyfob with the doors locked. My 2001 S3 had this function and it saved unlocking the whole car to get into the boot
b) Come Home lights - why do you have to manually pull the high beams if you've already selected a time for them to stay on. On my dad's old MB they stay on for whatever period of time you choose. Nice feature.
c) Does anybody want to buy a dog guard thingy - i got one with my car and will never use it
d) Why no automatic dipping passenger mirror for reverse parking? Is this an option?
e) Automatic windscreen wipers - bit annoying having to select it every time you start the car. Again on the MB you set it once and leave it.
f) Does anybody else have to shut the boot quite hard - i've driven of a few times now and the boot open indicator has come on. And it's not that i've shut it softly
g) What setting do have your sat nav on? Fastest or motorways? I've found motorways to be faster than fastest on one occasion so no sure what's the best.
h) After blacklines (exluding a remap, wheels, suspension) what are the best mods?

Loving the car Even getting it to understand my scottish accent

a) you can, the bottom button, hold it down, unlike audi when you catch it slightly by mistake it opens!
b) Personally prefer this as you don't always want your lights on for 40 seconds or whatever.
c) Just bought one last week!! If it is the metal one they are £300 by the way.
d) Comes with the electric seats, same with all cars.
e) Agree!
f) Yeah I get this, should close and catch easier.
g) I find Fastest best, but if I lived where the A and B roads are piss poor (Wales and Scotland etc.) with lots of single track then I guess Motorways is the best option.
h) Personal choice.

I put this down to bedding in but after a while I discovered that the spring in the catch is not strong enough and if you look, it is not sprining back into place.

A quick trip to the dealer and they just took it away to fit a new boot catch thing and right as rain ever since. They seem to have come across it before.

If, as gIzzE stated, the third button doesn't work for you check the switch in the glovebox. I don't recall offhand what the symbols are on the switch but, whatever it is now, try it the other way.

We don't have that switch in the glovebox in the UK cars.

d) You need either electric seats of power fold mirrors.
f) Yup, you get used to checking in the end. Or craning your neck around the D-pillar to see if the light is off.

mirror dipping depends on where the selector is left...can't remember which way around, but if you have it selecting the drivers door mirror, then I think that means it dips when reverse selected....but might be other way around.....!!

As Chrisbin says .. Re: d)

You need to have the mirror selector left on the passenger side. If you have it in the driver side the reversing dipping is de-activated.

I agree with you it's not thought through. Apparently it's to prevent people locking their keys in the boot. You could open the boot with the doors locked on the E46, it was a useful convenience. Now on my E90 you have to unlock the car 1st then apply the boot open button to open the boot. Surely there is no point in using the button once you have already unlocked the car. On the saloon it just pops up the boot lid, not much gained by this function.

eBay. There is a seller based in Germany who sells these things. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Eternalcar

Identical to the genuine BMW one (even down to the moulding marks) but no BMW badge and thus price.

I have had mine since the car was new and for £25 is has been fantastic.
