135 Front Rotor/Caliper is a direct replacement for the 335

I just found out that the 135 rotor and caliper which were made by Brembo area a direct bolt on for the 335. They also look nice and say BMW on them.

I'm getting a price now...

I was thinking if the price is right, do the following:

1) 135 Front rotor/caliper with good street pads
2) Stoptech rear SportSlot rotor and Stoptech street pads - stock rear calipers
3) Stainless steel lines all around
4) ATE Blue fluid

Anybody have a concern with this setup?

Do some reading about those 135i calipers on 1addicts; they're having troubles with them. Our 335i calipers are much stronger!
Your other thread about the StopTech rotors/pads with your current calipers sounds like a better solution.
If you want better heat management than oe replacements and can afford them, check out RacingBrake 2 piece rotors. I was in on the pre-production group buy but backed out cuz imo they're too expensive for a DD. If you're going to track, these would be a great alternative to a BBK..

Thanks CVC. Engineering Automotive in Toronto apparently has done this on a few 335s now.... but I will certainly do some reading on this.

The 135 front calipers LOOK nice.... but it HAS to work better.

I was all set to do the Stoptech replacement rotors and pads/lines - I have a bit of time to research this - so thanks.

Aren't the rotors for the 135 smaller than the 335 ones? Seems like a downgrade in swept area to me.

Why not go with the 335is rotors (lighter than std 335) and some better pads?

Ya, I am not going to consider this route...

I will go with a slotted rotor and street performance pads and steel lines.... Just have to select the rotors now.

Why slotted?

335is rotors are different than 335i? Sure you're not thinking about the Z4 35is rotors?

The 135 caliper is fine as long as you use the stock pad or a pad that was specifically made for the 135. People had trouble on the track with a modified pad. The movement of the pd in the caliper combined with high heat caused the seals around the pistons to fail and heat to build in the caliper. The pistons would overheat and crack eventually. This is not a problem with proper pads.

Thought the two were one in the same. If not, then yes, the z4 35is rotors are the lighter ones I was referring to.

I had heard/read that the Slotted rotors are stronger and have more swept area with less material taken out of the rotor.

My use is spirited driving and occasional track use. Please advise on what type of rotor I should be looking at.

The Z4 35is front rotor has an aluminum hat, is lighter and fits the 335i, but it's not hubcentric to the 335i, which rules that option out for me. I believe the 335is has the same rotors as 335i.

I think either case, the 135, 335is, or z4is.... these are stock. I think the after market premium products IE: Stoptech, DBA, or others are going to be superior and have proved track records and results with the street performance pads.

This is my opinion of course. Maybe I'll pose the question in my Stoptech thread on what rotors/cost is the best.

They are hub centric. The front wheel bearing and the carrier on the Z4IS and 335 are the same.

From 'firechicken99' who installed the Z4 35is rotors on his 335i:

"That makes sense... While two weeks in i have no issues, this would confirm why they seemed to be not as snug as i would have expected when putting the locking bolt into the hub. I noticed there was a very tiny amount of wiggle room. when freely spinning the mounted rotor on the hub before re-installing the brakes and tire it also looked like it may have not been "hub centric", kind of like rolling a lopsided ball (I hope you realize this example is VERY extreme! ) but of course were talking about maybe .75mm slack on each side around the rotor and it was so small I thought maybe it was just in my head (i was only eyeballing it, nothing genuinely accurate).

I've driven on these for two weeks now at speeds up to 120 and have not noticed any odd vibrations, rubbing, problems braking etc. So I dont know if the 1.5mm may be negligible if mounted and aligned properly on the hub before locking the screw in, but dont take my word for it...."

That is normal for an aluminum hat rotor since it will grow with heat.

both the 335 and the Z4 35is use the same hub/bearing: 31216765157 therefore hub centric is not an issue.

Yeah, David1 pointed that out already. Thx. Good news for me; I'll be using these rotors when it's time

I am getting close to needing brakes as well and will be using these rotors too. Still on the fence about pad choice. I have used HPS on street cars in the past and liked them a lot. But I am curious about some of the other reccomendations I have read on the forum: Proterfield R4S, Stoptech, or Cool Carbon. All seem to be noted as an improvement over stock torque and less dust. Which all fit the bill for what I am looking for. Additionally the new BMW compound (wifes 2011 328) makes very little dust and stops well, so those are a consideration as well. Hopefully something comes to light beofre I need to make a choice.

^ I'm thinking Stoptech street performance pads or maybe oe. Mixed reviews on CC and Porterfield is a bit noisy. I don't want to listen to noisy brakes and they've got to stop in cold weather for me. Either way, it'll be nice to have a lighter front rotor w/alu hat!
