Tire Rack from the Tire Rack! Wall mounted tire/wheel storage solution.
http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AH8&...orage_rack.jsp From our site : The Tire Storage Rack is a well-engineered solution to help organize the garage and keep extra tires or Tire & Wheel Packages out of the way. The flexible design allows room for today’s performance-oriented Tire & Wheel Packages or can be adjusted to accommodate less aggressive tire widths. The adjustable rack quickly attaches to wall studs providing a convenient and safe storage method and its heavy-duty construction has been load tested to a weight capacity of 400 lbs. Currect pricing is $129.

Won't this cause flat spots in the tires?

+1 no worries since there is no load on the tyre.

Correct. These don't cause flatspots.

So that bar pushing on the tire for 5 months is ok? How is that much different than sitting on the ground?

I've had tires resting on the ground for more than 6 months without them flat spotting. If they were still on a car, I could see the problem as the tires eventually bled off the air. With this rack, you could always bump them around a bit every couple of weeks or so if you would think it helps.

The wheels are pretty heavy, so I think this would be a good solution as long as it's low enough to the ground to make it easy to load.
I like the idea of having them off the ground. I'm currently using one of these to store the tires in my shed (also purchased at Tire Rack): It has worked fine for swapping out summer-winter tires and back again for two winters now.

Chest high or shoulder high should work well if the weight is a concern.

Interresting since I have 6 sets of tires on rims in my garage. Unless there is a better solution for more than one set out there.
A quick question for you Gary. What is the best position to store tires that are mounted and not mounted if you don't have appropriate shelving system?

Depends on how you mount it to the wall. You would have to mount is on beams of course but I see no problem with the design safety-wise if mounted propelly.

The tyre itself doesn't weight as much as a 3,500lb car, so it will be ok. Or you could take some pipe insulation foam and cover the bar for peace of mind.

I think that storage is an excellent idea but ideally would want to mount it nothing higher than 30"- 36". That allows you to easily offload the wheels from your vehicle without bending down and picking them up. You can still put a counter top high shelving system beneath it too.
Some 22s or 24s with tires can go upwards of 70 lbs or more. So placing a 280+ lb dead weight on a wall isn't too good of an idea. Although it says it can hold 400lb, but who knows about the wall? |

Exactly. The tires/wheels don't weigh nearly enough for flat spotting to be a concern. Even without the rack they can be stored in any position.

If two wall studs in your garage put together can't support 400lbs you have much more to worry about than tire storage!
