If not a single person we know has this working, I think we can safely conclude the ULF retro-fit is german voice only. I can't see how every dealer across North America are so incompetent that they cant code their own cars properly.
I wish Martin would admit this and leave it at that. Even with this issue, I still think the product has a niche here perhaps at a lower price. (I know I would think about it) I am pretty sure this thing would sell like hotcakes if Martin was able to receive these units with working english voice. I know I would instantly order one. Just my two cents. Last edited by Fieno; 11-28-2007 at 08:55 AM.. |

Martin needs to take the step of getting detailed instructions on how to reprogram the ULF to English to the public so no one looks like an idiot. That being said, roveractivebmw on ebay said his kit come programmed for English out the box...

I still believe that you need more parts for this retrofit than only the TCU itself, such as the calling buttons and the Bluetooth antenna of course. Although they are not used for Bluetooth, they could be required for TCU programming (the programming could check for the buttons to be installed before proceeding).

For you to get excited by the number of standard features, not to connect anything to it -at least in the USA.

I emailed my SA and they told me it is not possible at this time, but I don't think he knows what he is talking about because he said that bluetooth is not supported on my car. Dunno... wish somebody can get this done and report it here!

Sometimes it is difficult to even have a conversation with dealer personnel without wondering what the hell they are doing "working" there... Next time at the dealer just refer to this SIB 84 14 05 posted by the OP in the very first post here... |

I called Savage BMW in Ontario, CA.
Parts Adviser told me there was no solution to my car, as for the bluetooth module to fit, I needed to have a certain "package". Then I provided the Tischer part # and he said "Oh, hmm yeah that would work; why didn't you give this to me earlier. Ok that would be $1500, let me transfer you to service. After they install the TCU unit, you would need software update, let me transfer you now." The service adviser (after a 20 minute wait): "I apologize for the wait. I talked my shop foreman and he looked at me kinda weird and said: 'All 07 335is should have phone preparation.'" So I gave him my VIN and he confirmed I had satellite and phone preparation. So then we back to square one with him suggesting I just get a bluetooth module. However, he DID quote that a TCU installation with labor is 3 hours: $396.24. for 3 hours of labor, including the necessary programming to get it to work. Ok the SA called me back telling me that because I don't have BMW Assist (DUH! no ZPP ) I have no wiring capability to accept a TCU unit equipped with bluetooth. So I asked him to humor me and kindly look up the SIB and he said he will call me back. |

Ok I called Sydney Chan from New Century BMW,
I gave him the SIB 84 14 05, and my VIN # and he said he would have to do some research and call me back in 30 minutes. After roughly half an hour, he called me back and said that for my particular vehicle I would require a bunch of accessories, including the antenna and 2 modules, each of which would be in the thousands. I told him I already have phone preparation which should include the antenna etc. He replied that he knew that already but was just letting me know what the directions said. So I inquired, "What about part #84 109... " he immediately replied, "... 181 230? That is a generic part # that was not compatible with your particular VIN." Then I wondered about whether he referred to the SIB. He said yes, he was basing this all off of the SIB, that if I looked all the way through the SIB, it would describe specific parts for each range of vehicle production dates. For my particular vehicle, it would require the 2 modules and extensive labor and programming which would already be $3k alone. So he said it was not worth it for me and yeah, I should have gotten ZPP. Last edited by AoshichanX; 02-21-2008 at 04:51 PM.. |

Just called bimmernav again; spoke to a sales rep who told me they have sold thousands of these units to people and no one has complained of German voice command.
I am undoubtedly hesistant to believe his claims, but it IS evident that the most satisfied customers do not bother posting, and it is the few that have trouble who do post. However, upon browsing their website I saw this: so I will give tom @ eas a call right now. |
