Things like this put me off a potential 335i purchase. Can you tell me about your problems. Listing everything and how you have got on etc. Maybe a new thread is an idea?!

I wasn't impressed by some of the explanations I was given (I might be paraphrasing here):

"You should buy a newer car. They're so complex that the electrics are bound to fail after a few years" - My car was 3 years old when the problems started.
"We gave you transport, that's our policy, we've fulfilled our obligation" - I bought a 335i for entertainment as much as transport. Spending almost two months in a mixture of base model Minis and 1-series is not worth the money I paid for the car.

I could keep going, but I'll wait until I'm safely installed in my next, non-BMW car before going on a full offensive (which won't be limited to just this forum).

What did they do? Replace the engine?

I always take warranty claim invoices with a pinch of salt, just the dealer trying to get the maximum cash possible out of the manufacturer. It seems problem diagnosis is dead at main dealers - replace the cheapest things first until the problem is solved!! I use good independents for this reason..

My car has 78k miles now and had a fuel pump replaced at 30k miles. Not sure which pump i have, but the most recent ones are meant to hold up much better...

For info, 6 injectors, 3 coils and a spark-plug replaced in 6 months of ownership.

I have a 335i M sport as does a work colleague and someone in another department has a 335i SE, touching wood none of us has had a problem. Mines 15k 2009 and the others are similiar ages with much more miles. A girl in the office next door has a 120d and not a problem either. If i still have mine in September when she's 3 I'll extend the BMW warranty, not for me but for peace of mind for the next owner. I completely agree with the statement above about warranty claim invoices being priced high.

All 6 injectors were malfunctioning at once? Or was this the recall on faulty injectors last year?

Will be after the AUC warranty runs out in July! Just the usual 12 months AU warranty.

First injector failed, and then when it went it they did recall check and then replaced the remainder.

For now I'll just list the work that was done and not the circumstances surrounding the whole issue as I'm still talking to BMW customer services, at least I would be if they ever called me back...

3 injectors and a couple of spark plugs
Another 3 injectors for the recall
HPFP controller
HPFP
Clutch slave cylinder
Another 5 injectors
Decoke head and grind valves
Intake manifold pressure sensor
DME
Fuel pressure sensor (low pressure side)
Oxygen sensor
Fix damaged wiring
plus a hell of a lot of diagnostics etc trying to track down the problems

I'm sure I've missed out a few things, I've not got the paperwork in front of me.

Blimey, that's a lot of components! It'll be interesting to read the full story.
However, it makes me wonder about the competence of your dealer. I mean, six injectors.......and then another five? WTF? and why "damaged wiring"?

Or more generally, let me pose this question: are 335i's really that expensive to fix? Or is actually the case that incompetent franchised dealers replace components knowing that BMW will underwrite the cost, thereby inflating the true cost? And still don't solve the problem........

Obviously I'm not party to the full facts in your case Dan, can't help being a bit cynical though.

I didn't take any of them out. Picked it up last Thursday, LOVE IT. It was up for £15,000 originally but got it down to £14k and then an extra £250 on top of the trade in value of my car so totalled £13750 so more than happy with the deal.

Got it from Chiswick London. There were only 2 in Kent 1 was Auto and about £16k+ and the other was too high milage and about the same price.

believe it or not it wasn't a great wash. The hose pipe had frozen solid with water inside it as had the Pressure washer. So had to revert to the old fashioned bucket + water rinse and wash, was hard work in the cold.

I have been thinking about that, probably just get them wrapped. I'm not sure if i prefer there to be some contrast in colour. My last 2 cars have been all black. Suppose i can get it wrapped the pull it off if i get bored.
