Accys Work but no Crank
i have an 07 (late 06 build) with 51k on it and got in it this morning and drove to work with no problem. Got out of work 8 hours later, hopped in and it wont start. I am out of warranty both from time and miles.
The radio and idrive etc work but when you go to start it, it doesnt even try to turn over. It is kinda weird cause i think that when you sit and push it once, everything turns on, then you hit again to start it and it turns off. Battery has never been replaced in it, so i know it is getting close to needing to be done. I tried to jump it but it did not once seem like it was going to try to crank. No clicks or anything. Also, the first time, the brakes seemed to depress like always. After that, they feel quite hard with little give at all. I have only one key and it is comfort access and when i place it in the slot it still acts the same. Any ideas? Never got a battery warning... what can i look at before i have to tow this to the dealer?? My plan is to pick up a battery in the morning and try it out. If it does not work, I guess tow it to the dealer to have them look at it. On a side note, my dealer has 15% off currently... it seems like indys parts are full retail but are cheaper on labor. With this promo, it is nearly worth it to use the dealer as it does not appear much more. Have you guys seen indys be cheaper on parts to make this assumption incorrect? no warning light at all.. but get to work this am ( left the car there) and the damn thing started right up!!! I am going to replace the battery anyway i think. Window has a black circle so i think it is near dead in any event. I will then brace myself for a costly repair if this happens again... and until then i will be worried each and every time i start my car. I wonder if it will have a code i can read.

Starter. Leave your battery alone.

I have an 03/05 build. Original battery but not original starter. '06s have this issue. It's really bad when it's cold (below 40F).

I vote battery, however, you should have had some telltale symptoms beforehand. For instance, yellow battery sign, has this shown on the dash? Also, my a/c wouldn't blow hard before going out. I eventually replaced the battery before it 'died'.
If acc's still work well & no battery sign. i vote IBS (neg) cable. I just had mine replaced. Same thing happened to me recently. Car wouldn't start. 1-2 month old battery (not registered). Towed to dealer. It started for them next day. Diagnosed as bad IBS cable. (I was hoping it was starter, as that would have been covered under CPO) From what I hear, you can hear the starter going bad, as in it trys to turn & nada. However, if you hear no cranks, possibly bad key (check to see if car recognizes it) or ibs cable. Or steering lock, or connector behind glove box. GL
