Lower grills on e92

Has anyone ever tried to take out the lower 3 grills and paint them a gloss black! I have the gloss black kidneys and I feel like the lowers look so dull ? Help/opinions.

I'm not usually a fan of plastidip but I think this would be the appropriate time to use it. Tape off the bumper surrounding the grilles, leaving about a half centimetre of bumper exposed (so you can peel a clean edge when it's done). I'd say about 4 coats of the black plastidip and 4 coats of the glossifier would do the trick.

If plasti-dip is the route you decide to go, www.dipyourcar.com is a great resource for products and how-to's.

You can buy black lower grills from Tischer or other BMW parts suppliers. Look up your car in realoem.com/front bumper assembly and you'll see the silver and black lower grille inserts.

They will (I have done the 328i mod on my 335i) but it'll look better IMO. You can paint them (I did that prior to the switching) but they will chip eventually.

If you are going to pull the front bumper off (not hard) then I'd recommend investing the $70 and getting the OEM black ones personally having had both.

This is one of the first mods I did. Take off the bumper (takes 15 min) and insert new satin black grilles.

Much better than painting the stock ones and dealing with them chipping later down the road.

I took my bumper off and popped off the 3 lower grills got a can of paint primer and can of black paint spray and did 2 coats on each lower grill, later like 3 4 years now it's starting to chip off.

Don't order from Unique Euro Designs they won't ship for weeks. Order from Tischer they have a complete set available and they will ship right away. Be aware that driver's side grille is partially blocked so if you want all grilles completely open you'll need to paint your existing driver's side one. That's what I did.

There's a DIY for that. Did it myself. A bit tricky, but it's very possible.

Yea the BMW engineers must have made it into a one piece mold bc I found threads back in '08-'09 where it was still a two piece setup and no modifying was required. So if you have an oil cooler the passenger side needs to be opened up.

I purchased the newer one piece design and spent an evening with a dremel, exacto, and file cutting out each opening as I did not want to paint it again. It took a LONG TIME but was well worth it

They are a few more items up but there. Price is solid and if they are able to get the open style passenger side for the oil cooler I would DEFINITELY recommend getting this set! As a prior customer of multiple purchases I can definitely say the Tischer teams rule too so if you have any Q's shoot them an email.

I just noticed you have a 328i... so you already have the satin/matte black lowers
