I think the tradeoff is power and customizability, at a higher price. It probably also keeps the MPG readings accurate because a reflash will have direct control over various engine parameters.

JBD is an inexpensive way to get more power, but without as much control.
$1300 is pretty steep though. It does include the hardware programmer, but damn.

Anybody know if the ESS programmer is able to view or erase codes?

Just a general opinion question, will be picking up a new 335d with zsp, should i get rid of the RFTs as a first mod? Been reading majority says they are terrible with the 335i, but no comments with a 335d

Tires are tires and pretty much apply to all the platforms.

If u switch I recommend Continental DW, much better tread life than my previous Direzzas z1's, quieter, better in the rain, they just dint grip quite as well as the Direzzas in dry conditions, but my 2nd set of Direzzas lasted 3k miles, and that was with my wife putting most of the Milage on them.

My car came with Michelins instead of the Bridgestones - big improvement. My old 335i came with the Bridgestones and I replaced them with Michelins, which is why I know...

This was a great read. My JBD should be in my mailbox soon.

Not to question the results, but the runs were all done using a GPS like device? How do the results compare to a drag strip?

Either way, good to see a stock v. JBD comparison using a before/after method.

These results were done on a Racelogic Performance Box. (Vbox type GPS device). Very accurate. At the track the ET would be the same. In the same DA, it would be about 107.2 mph at Famoso, and 110.8 mph at Sacramento previously. As I drive the car on the street right now..with the NT555Rs, I am regularly pulling high 12's, and 4.5 sec 0-60mph times launching in 2nd gear.

FYI, I think Mr.5 had thos wheels and 3/4 had cracks in them!!
You might want to PM him to see if they're the same wheels.

I say no. I've got Michelin runflats on my d with ZSP, and the ride, while firm and sporty as you'd expect, is not overly harsh. I have no problem with them. think most of the complaints you hear about runflats are on the pre-LCI 3-series. BMW has since tweaked suspension tuning and has improved ride quality on runflats.

I'm six months into my d ownership, and I'm lovin' every minute. It's an amazing car.

I have run 75% and 100% both with no CEL whatsover. There were some undefined shadow codes, which may or may not have been tuner codes, but I wouldnt worry about them when driving the car....and just reset when servicing.

The car has an awesome ride with the RFTs. The car rides like a more luxurious/expensive car. The ride is so controlled and yet smooth.

On regular road yeah the ride is not bad at all but much better and quieter with regular tires. The runflats on rough roads and potholes is ridiculously bad. To the point where I cry when i hit a pothole. Bumpy roads are pretty bad too. Keep in mind the diesel does have different suspension than a regular e90.

That is inaccurate. Before swapping out my springs and shocks for the old BMW performance dampers I cross referenced part numbers with Tischer BMW comparing the "d" against a comprably equipped gas e90's and the suspension systems are the same.

My shocks in the rear for sure say "e90/91 Diesel" I've read somewhere too that part of the changes to a diesel was a specifically tuned suspension because it does weigh considerably more than a gas model. Maybe the sport suspension is different? not sure. i am pretty sure that the diesel and gas do have different suspension tuning of some sort. 335i vs 335d is a 300lbs difference in weight.

What I do know is that the parts and in particular the shocks are the same between two comprably equiped E90's (one "d" the other gas) with non ZSP suspension. I confirmed this with Evan at Tischer before buying the old Performance dampers for my car. Below is just part of the coorespondence, I have part numbers too.

All I know is that my Sport Suspension 335d says its for an e90/91 diesel. And I've heard that BMW had to modify the suspension to cope with the extra weight of the car, especially up front. Maybe some other members can tune in?

Number of sensors

For those that have the JBD does it intercept both fuel and boost or just boost?

I spoke to VAC and they grab both sensors.

Thx

Believe it doesnt touch boost, just controls fuel.

Power between the VAC and JBD is similar. Here is a customer dyno from last year showing a comparison of the two. His particular dyno was reading much lower than normal for some reason but you get a good feeling for the power gains over stock for each. I believe default settings were used but not sure on that.

To modify boost with the 335D/X5D takes a lot more than just the MAP sensor. You need the MAF sensor as well. Boost is already pretty high from the factory, I don't believe any tune is raising it significantly.

Mike,

Basically it looks like the results are similar I can't tell from your graph which run is JBD and which is VAC.

I take it the JBD is upgradeable? I'm not familiar with the Canbus and cable option on your website. Is this just for diagnostics and upgrading the unit?

I have an 08 M3 and now with a little girl in the family, it might be nice to get something different. Don't know if I can live with just Torque alone but if its really monster torque then maybe. Most of my driving lately is basic city driving so the M3 is overkill.....

Any thoughts.

PS: Just opened my eyes and see which is VAC and which is JBD.... Sorry

With the JBD torque output will be 500+ lb ft! If that isn't enough might want to look into the CTS-V. It will also rip to 60 in 4.5 seconds.

And it is so easy to launch with all the torque. 2nd gear launches from an intersection are amazing. Around town is where the car shines. On the fwy, it is strange to refrain from down shifting too much. You can do a lot or passing starting at only 2500rpm on the fwy.
