Smoothest Tune..???? lookin for Smooth as stock

Drove my friends 335i with SSTT for a couple days and the whack is nice but the real thing that i noticed most was when i got back into my stock car.
The motor is set up so sweet soooo smooth just builds and builds with no abrupt whack... now the faster the better, but it got me thinkin which map and which tune emulates the stock smoothness best..

Have not tried others, but have had procede from original version which to me, exhibited the same characteristics you described. I am currently using the latest Procede canbus+ and feel completely stock in terms of linear acceleration. I must say it is very nice, and dead nuts on, in terms of boost in regards to which map you are running . Pretty sweet and you have adjustablity in many factors that can fine tune it to your car.
I have 41K miles using Procede Rev.1 and 2.

Have not tried JB or Procede but I found local piggy backs where far harsher than a flash tune. If I am reading you incorrect and you consider that whack too much then you gonna have to get someone to do a map for you with some built in lag.

JB3 maps 2,4,6 as smooth and linear as stock.

How about JB3, or PROceed?

I have heard good things about GIAC Flash, LET Flash, and a few others as well.

Take everything into consideration and decide what is best for you and write up a review with your thoughts! =)

There are two factors which dictate subjective smoothness of a tune car:

1) The throttle angle at which boost is enhanced. The earlier, the more torquey the engine will feel. Too early and you get a "whiz-bang" effect in the first half of throttle travel followed by a slightly less responsive 2nd half of travel. Might be pleasant in stop and go traffic but not very progressive when driving hard. Especially with 350+whp.

2) The rate at which boost is enhanced with respect to time (once the DME establishes the target). Too quick and you can get a nice punchy effect at the expense of smoothness. Too slow and you sacrifice response in lower gears and induce an annoying "rubber band" effect with respect to throttle application and torque delivery.

That said, smoothness has NOTHING TO DO with type of tune (piggyback, flash, etc,.) It is completely dependent on mapping and (with the case of pigggybacks) the quality and quantity of input variables. PROcede v1 and v2 dictated points 1 and 2 by looking only at boost pressure. v3 added a TPS input and we all saw now much things improved. v3 Rev.2 (canbus) now adds 4 more variables for load determination. The effects are subtle but there if anyone wants to do a comparison between Rev.1 and Rev.2 when running the same map.

Ultimately, throttle response is largely subjective. Some like it enhanced in addition to the extra power. Some like to slow it down with the extra power. For that reason, we make it user adjustable with the PROcede (scale of 1-5).

Cheers

With the JB3 I thought 1.3 was great, but the latest 1.4 beta_9A7 is damn smooth and strong! Worth a test drive for sure.

i agree with Mike! 1.4 beta 9A7 is extremely smooth and pulls so sick! i recommend anyone with the JB3 to update to the 9A7. you will not be disappointed with its smooth powerband and power consistency. in addition to that, those who are 6MT'ers, the shifts transition is a lot smoother as if the boost does not lag on the next upshift. good luck with you're decision!

I gotta agree Terry is smoothing this thing out nicely without sacrificing power.

Hard to belive there is such a noticeable improvement over 1.3 but it is true with 9A7 (version 2). Great work Terry!
