BMW online troubles

I have received my username and password from BMW but when I try it in my car it just says gsm out of range (or something like that). I have read the manual and looked online but can't see what i am doing wrong!! Does the car have its own sim card? Can anyone help?? BTW it is the DVD based nav (pro media option) Thanks Matt
