I had a proclip but I wanted something a little more integrated. I got this: http://m.ebay.com/itm/350057374848?nav=SEARCH

I was able to use the cradle from my proclip and I ran the cable under the trim to the center console USB. :-)

No screw handle below the mount... looks cleaner!

I actually had something like that before....the holder part...not the cd mount. My experience was it didn't really hold the phone in place. Well with mine (note 2). The sides that hold the phone were too small for it to hold. Might work without a case.

EDIT: BTW, did you get the newer mountek that has the magnet or the one that clips on from the sides? I may upgrade to that magnet one. Looks nice and good reviews.

I picked up my car two weeks ago, and this was my first mod. I installed an iPhone plug in the side of the storage compartment in front of the shifter, and connected it to the USB port in the center console.

When I get in the car I just simply slide the phone into the plug, and it holds the phone at an angle where I can view maps/nav and also charge the phone.

With the audio on iPod, it also plays the nag and pandora through the car. Seems to be a quick and cheap (less than $20) solution. Only had to buy an iPhone USB cable and some trim covers/caps. It also solves the problem of having to open or have a cord hanging out of the center consoles if I want to plug my phone in.

Babydragon,

Yep...make your own. A little aluminum, a bending brake, some felt...a little creativity and you're done. Impress your neighbors...heck, make a few and sell 'em.

Now for the questions: Does it fit all phones - nope. Can you attach your power cord - nope (needs modification). Does it rotate - nope. Can you easily remove it - yep.

Take pride in your achievements!

Could that break your air vents? I wouldn't go the cheap route on such an amazing machine.

They are cheap little flat plastic caps/plugs that I found in the local auto parts store's trim and fasteners section. I used an exacto blade to cut a slot in the flat cap for the connector to pass through.

+1 for ProClip. I have had them in several cars, for several different phones for the last 6 or so years. Quality product and customer support. I just ordered one for my 335 that should be here tomorrow and can't wait to put it in.

And as was said, specific to the car and simple install, usually just a snap in. You buy the mount and the holder separately. They now have a system that allows you to move a device holder from mount to mount so you could have a mount in different cars and just take the device holder with you in the different cars.

Many options out there, but I'm a loyal ProClip customer. YMMV

Well, ProClip fan or not, that's a pretty nice setup. Does it stay in place? I would be worried it would dump on the floor with some quick maneuvering (not that we would ever drive our cars faster to into lots of turns...). I have an iPhone 6 Plus so a bit more to try to keep in place.

Thanks! It holds iphone 5 and 6 very securely, the lightning connector is meant to bear the load of the phone without breaking unlike the old 30-pin. However, the 6 plus is much taller which causes it to tilt forward a bit with hard acceleration or launches. I don't think it'd be much of an issue if you secure the lightning connector securely, maybe you can also have another piece securing the iphone. I love this setup because not only is it clean and simple, people think it's oem. Let me know if you have any other questions.

By far the best, cleanest iPhone integration I've seen!

Mills and Pawlin, both of you guys did a great job! You're making me want to get rid of my ashtray.

I've been using the Kenu airframe in my E90 and it is the best phone holder I've used. I've received lots of compliments on it and some people thought it came with the car. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00D90...KSL&ref=plSrch" rel="ugc" target="_blank">http://<a href="http://www.amazon.co...ref=plSrch</a>

I have one of these as well. Looks clean, and like you said it does look like it came with the car.

Personally I don't use mine as I fear the air vent fins will get loose or break. Plus I need my air vent unblocked.
